So i was off for 2 weeks cause i was playing another game, i logged in just now to find out the story being gated by 200 gems , felt little irritated but that’s not the problem

I exchanged gold to get the 200 gems and now i select “buy this story” then get an error saying cant connect to login servers but i am already in game playing , i made a ticket just now but wanted to make a thread here to see if i can get a faster solution .

There might be a gap between the ending of the free unlock and the release of the new episode.
Try buying it again after the patch goes live and see if that works.

Same here. Story did not unlock.

The idea was that if you lock in within the 2 weeks of a living story part you unlock it for free. Those 2 weeks aren’t over yet, as Tangled Paths is still the current living story part.

So it should unlock for free until the patch later this day.

I’m afraid it doesn’t work like that. The end of the ‘free’ period happens at reset of the beginning of the day of the next patch. Just like Monthlies. Any time after 00:00 UTC of patch day will be past the ‘free’ period.

This makes sense as the servers can’t know when the next patch will go live. It could be any time during that 24-hour period.

Sorry, it does not make sense. You can patch out the free episode when you patch the game. You patch it anyway, so that patch should also be the moment when the free episode changes.

It might not make sense (to you), but that seems to be the way it works. I’m sure it’s automated; thus, it changes at reset.

The thing is…. they don’t patch the episode, they set up an automated system to do it. Which makes sense because this is how they are doing the living story going forward. Now they don’t have to worry about adding it to the patch, the system does it automatically.
