Hi. I just changed my password, and I still have the old password: Didn’t got any error message at password change, all normal.

Do both the new and old passwords work? Or does only the old one work? Could you please try to change again, and if it’s still not changing, post an update?

Thanks for your help.

New one is not working.

I tried to change again and now shows a message about the “password is not available”, “used before”, etc, etc. (Message is in Spanish so cannot tell you exactly; but you must know what I am talking about)

EDIT: So system got password and listed it as “used before”, and didn’t actually changed it.

Try and force a password reset, ie enter your username and hit forgot password. That worked for me.

It’s a bug, because the new password was stored and “already used before” and now I can’t use it. It’s not easy to make strong passwords that I can remember, and now I can’t use it. If I continue with this I will be out of password ideas very soon, so I will wait.

Confirmed – I changed my account password about an hour ago, though it appears that it has not yet updated to the authentication server. I have not yet tried to log onto game (still at work, sadly), however I can log onto the forums using the old password. The new one gives me a logon error about the password being incorrect.

My suspicion is that it will take some time for the authentication server to update to the new credentials, and in the mean time we continue using the old.

Apparently, there is some bug with changing your password. I changed mine yesterday, 24 hours later and the new password is still not in effect. Logging into game or the forums requires the old password. I do still get the reminder to change my password when logging into game using the old password. I just tried to change it again to the new one I’ve come up with, but get an error message when doing so:

_That password is not available. Either you’ve used it before, someone else has used it before, or it’s known to have been hacked from another game or web site. Please choose a new, unique password for your Guild Wars account. We recommend creating a new password by choosing four random, unrelated words, as shown in this comic strip. _

It seems that the “new” password is being recognised somewhere within the system however is not applying to the account.

This happened to me too, just now. i’ve changed my password, i can only login using the old one and now when i try changing it again for the new it says it has been used, and i have the same issue, it’s not easy for me to make strong and very long passwords that i’ll remember.

I have no mouth and i must scream.

I am having the exact same problem. I have tried changing it about 5 hours ago and it stills requires the old one. I wouldn’t want to reset it only to have it fail again, as I would also run out of ideas, so I’m gonna have to wait too until there is a solution to this issue.

I understand — so you chose a new password and you’re ok now?

My suggestion is to create yet another new password and change it again. I had this happen a few days ago, and it looks like the password went to the block list instead of being applied to the account. Make another new one and change it again. You can check to see if it is active by logging out of account management and then logging back in again with the new password. If it took effect, it will do so right away.

I tried again today (after a month of creating this thread) and I was able to change it normally (GW1 changed too with this)

I noticed a new message about ArenaNet forcing players to change the password soon (if they don’t change it as I just did)
