Hey, I was wondering if there’s currently a feature that allows you to change your character’s name. I’m asking because I have a level 50 that I would like to add a last name to. Since it’s at a fairly high level, I don’t want to recreate it just for the sake of having a different name, but it is something I would definitely want to change.

If this feature isn’t available, I think it’s something that should definitely be added to the game. I’d be willing to pay a lot of gems (even $15 which I think is what WoW charges) for a character rename service.

Changing your name used to cost $15,- in Guild Wars 1, so expect around the same pricing in GW2. As for appearence, they said that they will be working on it. However since ArenaNet works in Valve time, we can’t know for sure when it will be here. Just that ’it’s coming’.

I know you probably can’t answer, but is there any sense of how long “a while” is? I’m only asking because if we’re talking next year, I’d just as soon re-roll and level another toon to 80 with the looks and name I want. If it’s sometime in the next couple months, then I’ll wait.

well, appearance change is already in the game, yet name change isn’t…even though appearance change is more drastic =/

name change was always available through the report feature. Many of us made random names at the start of the game to try the different professions and ended up with the profession that we like the most becoming our main but not with the name we like to use for our main.

Yea should be implemented, expecially merged with gender change too… I don’t want my “Big Joe” becomes a pretty small girl. Lol.

You’re right about the name/gender thing. We’re actually thinking about letting players know about that in one of our Knowledge Base articles, that with the Total Makeover your character would remain Pretty Polly but look like a football player.

Any info on whether the Name Change Contract will be featured in the content update at the end of January?

I dont understand why they let us buy a item that changes your characters sex but not name. That just dont make and sense.

This is also really importent and would like to do that also, I hope it will be possible at the same time.

They don’t do ETAs, except it is going to be rolled out with the next update. Until this will happen they stick to just one rule:
It’s done, when it’s done!

Even to be cynical about the profit motive (maybe there’s a programming issue?), this would be incredibly lucrative. I would gladly pay a hefty sum. All of my characters except for one, whom I would like to play heavily, share a “surname,” which is important both for my internal sense of RP and OCD, as well as for easy recognition in guild chat. I have no desire whatsoever to relive early levels in a class I’ve already played.

Planned for the future sounds like it isn’t even being worked on right now. That is disappointing, I’ve been excited for this ever since makeover (which was awesome btw).
