I am just really confused, Iv had my rangers name as Zero Cinderfang since day 1 but since the start of this year whenever I try to name a pet after me for pvp it keeps saying it is “not appropriate” or just now when I tried to make an alternative timeline version of my ranger and came to the conclusion that ‘Cinderfang’ is not appropriate. How is Cinderfang offensive I dont understand, can someone explain how? I dont want an offensive name and get banned >.>

Sometimes the game naming censor picks up letter combinations. For example, someone wanted to give her Norn the last name of Owlsdottir but this was disallowed by the games naming censor because it has the letters LSD in it (Ow lsd ottir). Cinderfang itself seems be perfectly alright, it’s probably just tripping a new version of the censor since you named your ranger.

Any name that is offensive enough to be reported by a payer does not get someone banned. The first offense is a forced renaming. If a person persists in choosing offensive names then they will get a 3 day suspension and a forced renaming.

Support does not go out looking for names, they go by names reported as offensive. And even then they have to agree its offensive. So I doubt you have anything to worry about.

The name filter on this game is simply infuriating. I can’t name my character ‘Darth Llama’ because the word ‘llama’ is not allowed.

They seriously filter the dumbest stuff. I have seen some incredibly offensive character names running around the world, but I can’t use Llama and you can’t use ‘Cinderfang.’

If you have it as your character name, chances are the name was blacklisted after you already had it.

It could be the letter combination d – e – r – f, which alludes to some behavior that is against chatting about in the ToS.

I’d submit a ticket to protest, but I’m not sure how far that will get you.

Some of the bans are quite questionable, but Support has the final word (no pun intended) about name issues.

They will tell someone if a name is acceptable or not but not discuss the reasons why it’s not acceptable. Since he has not yet been reported or suspended but is only worrying about the possibility I doubt he needs to contact support, not for a name like Cinderfang.

I mean, clearly, having three or four letters in sequence within a benign word should not prevent the legitimate word from being used! But if I type the name for the Factions character — assassin — it works fine. If I type a verb similar to the word “analyze” — inserted here: kitten — it comes out filtered. (The word is “asess” but add the double “s” in the first instance.)

I wish I could remember what game it was now, but it had a real problem with words like “assassin”. Which led to many a person being “buttbuttinated.” So … could be worse.

The game would probably permit the name to be made, but the “body parts” element of the name would probably make it not last all that long before having to be changed.

OP, I really like the name Cinderfang, it’s quite disappointing that it cannot be used. Would you consider alternate forms of it?

Breaking the words apart, replacing one of the letters with a version of the letter with an accent mark would also work. I do not think it would be construed as circumventing the filter.

Cinderfång (hold alt then press 0229 and release alt)
Cinderfâng (hold alt then press 0226 and release alt)
etc.

Or if it is the “e” part in the word mentioned by Inculpatus cedo that is causing the problem:
Cindêrfang (alt+0234, or alt+136)

LOL yeah, not going to tempt fate, it just sounded hilarious, in a ten-year-old-kid-sense-of-humor kind of way.

It’s a word that translates to kitten on the forum. ^^

I guess they didn’t run it thru a translator first. Sort of like the car, Nova, that didn’t sell well in Spanish counties as it translates to, It won’t move.
