Back when I first got my GW2, I tried to create a character by name of “Vonelis” and the name was available, but unfortunately due to particularly crappy internet connection, I was booted out at the finishing process (after signing the form). The character in question never appeared in my account’s roster and never took one of my slots.

Then, when I tried to use it again, the game says the name’s already taken. It looks like the character was indeed created, but simply never linked to my account, thereby consuming a space that never should’ve been.

Can I ask that the character be tracked down and if nobody is actually actively using the name (I assume it never gets past even the tutorial mission), be deleted so I can use the name again? I understand that this looks like a minor issue, but I’ve been using the name for every single game I have, I like it.

If it helps, the character in question is a female human engineer.

I must note that it’s been quite some time ago, almost a month perhaps, and I’ve never tried to use the name again, so I don’t know if it’s currently available or not.

You can add the name to your friends list and ask the person who has it if you can have it.

I seriously doubt that ArenaNet will delete someones character just so someone can get a name.

Thats not what he has been asking for. But you actually are giving part of the right answer.

Add the name to your friendslist. If it can’t be added, the name is not taken but bugged in the system. The feel free to file a support ticket. If you can add the name, your name has been taken by someone else and it’s bad luck.

Thanks for the responses. I tried to add the name to my friend list and nothing happens. Tried a few times to be sure. Will try to create a character with that name to see if it’s automatically deleted or not.

As an example, i have a warrior called Skarik Bearheart, now if i tried to make another character by that name, it’ll show that “A character with that name already exists, please choose another”.

It wouldn’t remove me from the game or disconnect me, it would just come up with that error.

This error, along with the disconnection, is basically showing that either your game is corrupted and will disconnect you regardless of what you name it, or it’s a server-side issue.

So your options are; Reinstall the game completely, or wait for an official response from an ArenaNet moderator.

The problem is not that the game booted me out when signing the name. At that time, I’ve signed the name and the name was indeed available. However, my internet connection was crappy and I never managed to get into the intro mission. Instead, as the loading circle keeps loading, a code 7 (or maybe 58, i forgot) error message appeared and I was forced to shut down the application and start again.

I’ve created 5 characters since, everything is fine. I just deleted one to prepare a slot for the name

I’ve filed a support ticket under Account Link/Unlink category, for better or worse, since there’s no fitting category for such a minor thing.
