The Guild Wars 2 website says that there is a free trial for the 9/27/13 to 10/3/13

Seems to be bugged for the moment, as it was working earlier today. I’m sure they will have it up and running soon.

You’re probably right. Things like this happen from time to time.
It’s quite hard to get friends to try the game and be able to play with them if they can’t get a trial account.

This is quite the letdown. I had my girlfriend download the client so we could play (which took the best part of two days) and now there’s no way for her to register for the trial. They may (or may not – hell, it’s not even officially acknowledged anywhere) fix it later, but the week-end is now, and her purchase decision depends on her having time to try it out. Needless to say, the light this casts on the perspective of a positive experience isn’t the most favorable.

Sounds like you’ll make a lovely addition to the community. Anyway, first off, breathe. Secondly, they’re probably aware of the issue and working on it and will most likely offer more free trials in the future.
Don’t support the Gem Shop, it’s that easy.

serious let down. i wake up today with txt from several friends whom i told about this trail last night, only 1 of a half dozen was able to and he made his account yesterday(friday). so im assuming there was a certain amount of “free trail slots” assigned, all of which taken yesterday. mod response to this would be nice, seen a couple threads about this, none have a response with some inside info.

I really hope that this is just some weird bug. Though, if it’s a bug, I also hope that they extend the trial a little. I want as many people trying this game as I can get. It’s a good game, but I can’t just have people play my copy to experience it, I need to them to play it for themselves.
And with the lack of a demo, it’s hard to find opportunities like this, especially when they’re all so far from each other and so short in time.

For the past 2 trials so far, they were not very interested, and when i finally talked them to try this game, this happens.
Also, you probably didn’t notice i wrote about this 9 hours ago already. still broken, still no word from anyone. It is already Saturday evening in my country, turning into night, so this weekend was ruined for me, and my friends still don’t know why i like this game so much.
Also i can’t use / correctly.

Thank you very much. I was actually just afraid that it wasn’t a bug and the trial period was just locked out.
I know someone with a GW1 account who tried to play this trial. The screen shows an error that says there is no GW2 access to the account when using client to log in. When trying to register for trial it says the password must be 8 characters and it’s actually 8 or more. When trying to contact GW1 support, they say they can’t help. And can’t post here on GW2 forums because no account.

Has your friend contacted Customer Support for GW2? They would be the ones to contact about playing the trial for GW2. CS can be contacted from the top of the page or by emailing CS at support@guildwars2.com

yes and they don’t even reply. Which is why I am posting since they don’t answer.
And changing the account name seemed to work but actually the trial was attached to a brand new account so no HoM connection can be made.

If it has been more than 72 hours since your friend has opened his ticket, and heard nothing, he/she can post the ticket number in the sticky for 3 Days and Older, and the Support Liaison will take a look. Or, your friend could just make a new trial account, one that wasn’t linked, to save time. Your friend could deal with a linking issue after they had purchased the game, if they should so desire. Good luck.

But they are now saying because the GW1 account was linked to an account, those accounts can’t do the trial. “Because the trial is a limited time”. So another account must be created if the person played GW1 and linked the accounts according to support.
