Hello guys,
So I gifted my friend a physical copy of the game and apparently its serial code has already been used. Could it be hacked or stolen in someway? Can you help?
Your friend would need to contact Customer Support for assistance. It would probably be helpful if you could provide him all the pertinent information about where it was bought, receipts, etc. To gain assistance, again, it must be your friend that contacts Customer Support if he is the one that is trying to register the account.

Good luck.

Where you purchased the game must be a valid distributor for the game or ANet is likely to be unable to assist you. The account codes are valuable….the client software (the physical copy) can be downloaded from this site and is basically free.

Did you buy a new boxed retail version?? or second hand?
If it is a new boxed retail version, your friend needs to do what IC is saying.
If it is second hand. Accounts (you buy an account that grants access) is personal and can’t be traded to someone else. You can always ask support to confirm this, but if possible you should try to get your money back asap (through paypal dispute, creditcard company dispute, etc). Also the original owner/seller of the account agreed to the terms of service where this is clearly explained. So he is in many country’s in violation off the law (scamming). So it might be good to report this to the police.
Hope its just a glitch, and if not you get your money back. Good Luck!!

MinoBG — I am sorry your friend is having difficulties, but what these good folks have said is accurate. The best thing is for the account owner — your friend — to contact Support if the game was purchased new and fully sealed. (I’ve known of a few unscrupulous resellers to replace the shrinkwrap on a box after the serial code has been used, but fortunately those situations are very rare.)

Am I correct, when I advised that in such situations one can always contact support to verify that the key is allready claimed by someone else and that the ‘new/faulty owner’ didn’t goof something up?? or is the stance for support that if he gets this error message, the account is secondhandbeyond doubt, and that he got scammed?
I also could imagine (you know I have a huge imagination -wink- ) that support would like to know the source, to track down people using your product as a scam on a professional level.

I said “If the game was new and sealed, then please have your friend contact Support.” Clearly, if someone purchased the game from a used game store, we cannot help. But for new games, of course we’ll do what we can.
If that is confusing, please let me know so I can add more information.

The game was newly purchased – sealed and untouched (also smelled new).
I will tell my friend to contact you guys ASAP.
Thanks for the support
