Funny hack story (help securing my account)
I’d change the password of your e-mail and let your virus scan do a search.
i did try to change my hotmail password but because i gave a false (just random) email dress as second email when i made the hotmail account, i have to wait 30 days before i can actually change it
if that makes any sence
but im sure to read trough the link karizee, but from what ive seen they propose the same solution as melanie did…and thats gonna take 3o days to kick in
is it possible to link my current gw2 account to a new email adress?

Not link, no. Change, yes.
To change your email you contact support at https://help.guildwars2.com/anonymous_requests/new and fill out a ticket.
A family member got hacked this morning and after reading forums for several hours the one common thing most hacked accounts have is Hotmail. We took the steps today to add a 2 step authentication on out Hotmail accounts but unfortunately GW2 doesn’t offer a 2 step process unless you have a phone capable of using one of their select mobile apps. (Anyone saying that Google PC app can should try it, it’s impossible to link to from the account screen)
The only thing I can’t figure out is how the hacker was able to determine the email address was associated with a GW2 account because once they got into the Hotmail account they moved almost instantly to the GW2 information (The pass was a 9 digit RNG generated alphanumeric different for both GW2 and Hotmail). I ran a recovery on Hotmail to see how many times they had hidden their login attempts and there was one.
It makes sense to me that hackers are now somehow able to get the email addresses of higher AP players and target them since i’m seeing a rise in posts from people with 10k+ AP.
It makes no sense that some random email hacker lucked into the PW in Hotmail and just immediately went to archives to remove a receipt from 8/2012 giving the serial number to a game they happened to have loaded on a machine.
It’s more likely that they have some form of hacker bulletin board out there where posts are made looking for access to email accounts with game serial codes. Either way the evidence points more towards my first theory that they have a way to find your email address simply by encountering you in game.

All they have to do is look here for the most profitable people to hack.
They are all listed by ability points. Not sure how they get e-mail addresses from it though.

Take heart, guys! As TLTS has said, after a hacking incident (after being inactive for a while) the matter was fully and happily resolved in three days.

I haven’t seen any evidence that points to all or most of the compromised accounts using Hotmail, nor that those accounts have high AP scores nor large amounts of gold. Some people post about losing 6 gold, some about losing larger amounts. Some say they play often, many more say they have not played in a long time.
I would be interested to see your evidence about compromised accounts.

OP: CHANGE your email immediately. The hacker obviously has (or has had) access to that email account and your only safe option is to abandon the account. I know that is a PitA, but if you have any RL financial or retails sites with that email registered, you could be in REAL financial danger.
While changing the email account password is a good start, a hacker will return to compromised accounts (or sell the info to other hackers). A hacker has lots to gain financially if they let the email account owner THINK it is no longer compromised and they keep monitoring it for a better target than your GW2 account (like your bank or Amazon account….that you saved your CC information on).
Just my 2 cents.
