I dont share the fact that a particular email address is associated to my guidwars account, so how am I being targetted everyday with scam emails?

What is really concerning is that I stopped playing the game for about 6 months, and the emails stopped, but immediately began again when I logged into guildwars.

I have no viruses, and even if I did I cant imagine why they would be made purposefully to phish for my guildwars credentials, while I play so many other games, have paypal and bank accounts, et cetera.

I am not confident my information is secure with arenanet.

It goes in waves.
Sometimes you get loads of them, sometimes none at all.
I have personally got these kinds of mails from “Blizzard”, “ArenaNet”, and countless others, even though I only really play games from ArenaNet.

They send mails at random, and hope that the targets happen to play said game.
They might also do it less random by using mails found at pages that are discussing MMOs and/or specific games.

Anet servers are safe. They’re not responsible for a player’s PC security, or lack there of. So if you were to get hacked, instead of blaming others, perhaps you should look within.

In GW2, Trading Post plays you!

Would-be hackers send e-mails to hundreds of thousands of e-mail accounts. They usually don’t know whether you have a GW2 account or not. I know this because for 10 years, I’ve gotten e-mails about my [insert other popular game name] account and I’ve never had an account. Ever.

We get e-mails regularly that say “I don’t play computer games, please stop sending me mails!” I explain that we’re not sending the mails. I further explain that would-be hacker send to non-existent e-mail addresses or to addresses someone used to subscribe to a forum, play another game, enter a contest, subscribe to magazine, or to an address that somehow became public knowledge in another way.

So don’t worry. There’s no issue on our end, and you are safe to simply delete those e-mails (without clicking any links or providing any account info)!
