How to buy guild war 2 for a friend
You could find a store that sells a hard copy and give that.
Or buy online, get the serial in your email and then sending that serial to your friend so they can make their own account with their own email and the serial.
Do not make the account for your friend, your friend needs to do that himself.
Hi SandraSolace. Thanks for the quick reply. Appreciate it.
So if I pay using credit, that information and email wont move to that new account?
No, it won’t. As soon as your friend makes his account it will be linked to their email and from that point the account is all theirs.
The serial is basicaly just a string of letters and numbers till it’s used to create a new account.
Thanks!
+1
You’re welcome! Enjoy playing with your friend!
Make sure he picks the right server so you can play together!
You are only allowed to give him/her a hard copy (unopened box)since the other way with just the serial key technically is basically account sharing and that’s a bannable offense.
That’s because this key is used for ownership verification if things go wrong with the account.

Coast, I’m sorry but you are wrong.
Nobody owns the account till the serial has been used to make an account! When you give the serial (unused) to someone else and they make the account in their name and email, they are the owner.
This has been posted several time both by forum members and GM’S.

Besides, the serial isn’t even needed to establish ownership if an account was hacked for example. There are many other way’s.

Sandra is correct, it is perfectly acceptable to email an unused serial code to another person as a gift. There is no account to share if the code is unused, because no account has been made yet. I bought the game for my sister at launch and did just that with the full knowledge of support (whom I emailed when I couldn’t find a gifting option).
An unopened hard-copy box is basically just a delivery system for an unused code, no different than an email.

But from the point the account is made its unsafe for the person who made the account since the other person mailed him/her the serial code since that other person has it also and in worst case scenario he can just take back the account he gave if he wants to be annoying ( since he has the serial code).

It takes a lot more than a serial code to establish ownership of an account with Customer Support.
In that case, you could say the guy who put the code in the box is “owner” of the account, since he presumably knows the code too. The person who registers the code and creates the account is the account owner. Anyone else who happens to know the code is not.

but the issue is someone else that isn’t authorised knowing the serial code since he send the mail with the code in it… with the boxed version he doesnt know the serial code if he hasn’t opened it.
Right, so when someone assembles the boxes and puts the codes in, do you think they’re blindfolded, or what? If the cable guy comes by and happens to see my serial code on the computer desk, is he going to steal my account?
The serial code is not the sole determinant of who owns the account. You can recover your account without even having your code.
Emailing a code is perfectly fine.
Actually, the codes in the boxes are on cards that need to be scratched before the code is even visible (they have some strip on them) so it doesnt matter if they do it blindfolded like a real wizard or not.
Second, the serial key should not be open wide on the computer desk.
You can recover the account with having the code also.
I am honestly tempted to just mail you my code and let you attempt to steal my account with it. You are clearly just determined to believe that’s all you need to get it.
No it’s not all you need, but its a pretty important detail that should not be taken lightly.
So if I was the OP I would try to give my friend a hard copy for the following reasons:
- the gift can actually be touched, has nice box with it
- definatly safer for the person getting the gift since theres an extra layer of protection (serial code being a secret)
What kind of friend would steal an account they purchased themselves in the first place? Lol, sounds rather far-fetched to me. It’s a perfectly safe way to give the gift of GW2. And, this method has been endorsed by staff, themselves.
Stranger things have happened in the world, history is full of it, also doesn’t matter if that method is been endorsed by staff since it reduces account security no matter how far fetched it might be.
