From what I know, the devs can find chatlogs themselves, without you providing them. I wouldn’t worry about being banned yourself.

Most certainly report them anyway. Let the mods look into it. Even if action is taken against the person you won’t be informed about it so its safer for your sanity to just assume that someone went to their house and kicked them in the face as a result of your report

Wow, to get that serious about a game, find a scapegoat to blame for their own failures, and then boot you from the mission and party……. Yeah if I was you, I’d report immediately, let ANet sort it out.

I would certainly report them. It sounds like you have your profanity filter turned on, which is why you were missing parts of the conversation. However, I would report the players that were abusive. The ArenaNet Team members will be able to read word-for-word what was said, without any filters. Just make sure you list as much detail as you can in the report – date & time (Seattle time if possible, or tell them what time zone you are in so they can convert it), as many names as possible, what the group was doing, and some information about what you COULD see in text. With that, they will be able to locate the appropriate timeframe in the logs and review it.

Hi,
I currently had an uncomfortable experience with some players in Fotm.
Long story short; their strategy didnt work 5 times, we tried mine and it worked from the spot – they kept argueing and one insisted that this would work everytime but bcs of me -for whatever reason- it didnt…
At the end of the run I could only read smth about “you […] bad player […] noob […]” before I got kicked. So this one player wrote a long text to insult me and kicked me instantly with his guild mates and I couldnt even read it properly -.-" . Chatlog was gone (thats why I cant remember much except those keywords above) and now I was wondering:
Is it safe to report someone for insulting when I can not provide a chatlog?
Bcs there is a nice red text when you want to report someone, telling you that your account can get suspended for false reports and that those reports are reviewed by GMs on the basis of the chatlog.
I would like to have an answer before I have to explain the account support that the chatlog which proves that someone insulted me disappeared bcs for some unknown reason the whole teamchat gets erased when u leave or get kicked from the party.Thx in advance
We have detailed game logs, and if you really feel that the incident involved behavior beyond the acceptable, you may report, giving the date, time, time zone, and the game world, plus your character or log-in name and the name of the infractor so that the team can research the incident.

Some parts of this info can be forgotten or not precise because game client does not save chat/combat logs anywhere to remind you, which is another game design flaw imo.
You can take as prime example an online sandbox game about spaceships that keeps all combat/chat information since your 1st log in until you personally delete them.

As a suggestion, if you feel the behavior of another player in chat is not acceptable, take screenshots of the conversation to remind yourself. The shots will have your local date and time as to when they were taken, and you can then see the conversation as well in order to include the information in your report. I am sure ArenaNet will not accept your screenshots as “proof”, since they have much more detailed logs at their end, but it will at least give you a reference as to what happened, when and who the other players were.

I was told that when you right-click the name to report what someone said, the report automatically involved that specific line of text for Anet’s convenience. For example, the other day in sPvP some guy was saying anti-gay and racial slurs, so I just right-clicked his name from the chat box and reported him for verbal abuse. It never gave me an option to provide any further information or anything. Just a drop down box to select the type of report and that’s it.
