Possibility ofa character name change?
In the future, we will offer a means for you to change your character name(s) for a cost in gems. At this point, we do not offer this service.
The names are not truly offensive, and would not be actioned, as far as I and my German-speaking associate feel. Therefore, I would recommend that you simply await the Name Change feature and make any alterations you desire at that time.

So many people ask about this feature. I see it here almost everyday. Maybe we can put a sticky above so people know it’s coming?
I must admit that the “in the future” reference is quite disappointing. The last reference was “quite soon” which I was taking as, well, quite soon. It sounds like the feature is back on the back burner. It would seem that this feature should have competed successfully for just about anything out of the 2/26 patch. Oh well.

Nothing is on “the back burner.” I misspoke back when I said “quite soon.” It turns out that such a phrase is too subjective and too difficult to define, and it unfortunately lead people to think there was some sort of implied timeframe in the phrase. I guess people took that to “guarantee” a certain month, date, build — whatever.
Saying “in the future” is more accurate and less likely to cause confusion. That is what I’ve been asked to state, as it is true and does not give as much leeway for misinterpretation as the other comment. Please forgive my misuse of the term in a previous post, and if you wish, you can read my explanation/apology for confusion, which I posted a couple of weeks ago.

But Gaile, for something that has been worked on for 4-5 months, and hardly being the size/complexity of an expansion pack, why is it so difficult for the dev team to make a proper statement about when this will come?

The don’t say when exactly it will come because like any game that is around even if the feature is in testing there could be last minute show stopping bugs that prevent it being pushed out. If they say it will be out next month then something happens and it gets pushed back that irritates people even more. Case in point when there were supposed to be WvW updates in february and they got pushed back a month.
I quote from another thread "Colin Johanson: “In February, we’re going to do a whole bunch of expansions on top of that world vs world area, to make that experience even more uniquely Guild Wars. But that’s something where we took a lot of inspiration from a previous game, and take that and then build on it and make it something even more.”
and yet there were unforseen bugs so it got pushed to march.
I realize a name change is not the same as a WvW update but the same rule applies really.

Many reasons.
A: It can be more complex then an actual expansion.
B: The dev team decides on priority’s and not us as players. Personally I make sure I pick a name I like and never have wished for a name change ever. I don’t mind having this feature in the game for those who want to use it, but I hope the dev’s are not wasting too much time on it but are also making improvements to the game I’m going to use and like.
C: It will be ready when it’s ready.
