Being able to see one’s display name in-game is making me not enjoy this game to it’s fullest. In all other mmo’s, people are not able to see everyone elses display name. In WoW for example, you can sign up with battlenet if you want your friends to see you when you log in game, but you have a choice. There is no choice with GW2 and I find that unacceptable. I’m a very private person and sometimes wish to play in private without having everyone know I’m on. Anyone else feel this way?

yes, I thought about it. It would be nice to log in with out everyone knowing it in the guild. This is the wrong forum for this, it needs too be in suggestions or GW2 game chat.

Go to the Contact Screen [Y], click the drop-down next to your name, and choose “Invisible.” That would seem to address your desires for playing privately.

Hi Gaile. This method first requires you to log in completely visible to others to change, and it does not save once you have logged out. Each time you log in, you are visible to everyone else until you load into the game and change that setting to invisible, every single log in.

I believe the request is for a setting on the login screen for a checkbox to log in incognito, as once you load into your character select screen you are immediately visible as online in contact lists and in guild member info, just without a current zone, which is an obvious sign that you are currently at the character select screen.

You could do that with the old log in, I don’t know if it’s available anymore (the beta’s one)
