Question about sending gold to friend
They say that writing in the PM what the gold is for and why you’re giving it helps them see you aren’t gold selling. I’m not sure how true it is
You could make your own guild though, having just you and him in, and transfer things through the guild stash. It isn’t all that expensive to do, just takes a little time. (Remember that new guild members cannot interact with the stash for 3 days upon joining, though.)
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?

Lilith is right, dev’s have posted this before.
If you want to avoid a ban, make sure you send the gold with a clear message. Because if you do get flagged for sending it, the first thing they look at is that message.
Thank you very much for your advice, but is there any risk of getting banned when using the guild bank? Like, it would be really weird if the systems sees me adding him 3days before i send him some gold

I really don’t think so. Because of the 3 day requirement, it’s hard for gold sellers to succeed in using it to sell, so I don’t think they flag it.
Also you don’t send him gold using the bank, you deposit it. He withdraws it.
Edit: inculp, I’d quote you but my flood control is too high, but I agree. However I think that due to the system anet has to have some way of distinguishing non gold selling from gold selling and it is a good way.

I’m not sure writing a message does much good. If it did, wouldn’t gold-sellers just write a fake message with each gold delivery stating ‘Here is the gold I borrowed. Now I’m paying it back.’….or something like that?
Food for thought.

If the search function, functioned I’d link a dev post. But it’s the best bet as far as I know.
How much gold are we talking about here. If you are going to send your buddy one or two gold to buy starting gear with, I seriously doubt there will be an issue with that. Now if you are going to transfer 100 gold to a new account, that probably will get the attention of the gold transaction monitor.

Sadly, depositing gold in the guild bank is no guarantee to keep from being banned, either. I can attest to that.
Whatever method you choose, if the false-positive comes up, CS will most likely put everything to rights, eventually.
Nobody knows the methods used or how they change or what they look for on this subject and I doubt we ever will. They rightfully want to protect that info so gold sellers won’t be able to get around the checks.
Bottom line is that if you put some reasonable note in the mail message, that will certainly help you get unbanned if the worse does happen.

Yes, of course they would. I don’t know where the “write a message to get a free pass for gold transfers” rumour got started, but I cannot give it a whole lot of dev approval.
There are logs and system checks that might flag an account for possible “suspicious” activity, but each transfer is reviewed by a human being and the false positive rate is very low. I’d encourage you to go about your business knowing that if someone were to make an error and block an account for a perfectly legitimate we’d act very promptly to reverse that error.
We’re human. We may make a mistake from time to time. But honestly, it doesn’t happen often, and the number of false positives is ever decreasing with improved training and review systems.

Thank you — very sensible observations!
