Taking a break from GW2 to play various
Nintendo games..
Hello,
Last night I was reported for bad language. Basically I insulted someone due to my exhaustion and irritability in an spvp match (spvp enrages me, so I shouldn’t do it as much) by saying one really random and rude comment over map chat towards another player. I was reported for it, and then I apologized for saying what I said, because it really was embarassing and toxic for me to do so. The person who reported me was really nice and seemed to wish that she could take back the reporting because I was nice about it, but of course that can’t be done. I asked her what the punishment would likely be and she said it would probably be an account disable for at least a few hours.
Looking around on the forums, it seems like 72 hours is what typically happens, not a few hours, but I’m a bit confused on a few details of the process. Do we get an email explaining the suspension and its duration? I wish to know this because I wouldn’t be able to log in until much later tonight anyway, and I’d like to know of the outcome of this incident before then. Additionally, exactly at what time would my suspension begin and end if it does occur? And during a short term suspension, do all trading post functions (buy/sell orders) still function normally? I apologize for asking these basic questions, but it will help me understand whats happening with my account so I can plan the short term future. Thanks for looking into this, I really appreciate it!
If you are suspended, you get a message when trying to log into the game that tells you why. That’s all you get.
ANet looks at the whole thing before suspending an account, and also looks at how many times you get reported and how frequently you perform the malicious action. If you did it once and then apologized and things were fine, you won’t get suspended.

Since none of us are in the Support Dept., I’m not sure how you can state when someone “won’t get suspended”. My view on the matter is that if you do the crime (and it gets reported), you will do the time. Being sorry and apologizing is all for the better, but that doesn’t reverse time and take back the foul language in chat….THAT is what you are being suspended for. It happened, you did it, you get punished.
It’s unlikely that anyone from Anet that views or comments on these posts will have any say on what is ruled on via an in-game report in any case (even if they had the authority to do overrule it).

The suspension length for a first offense is 72 hours. The first you will know of it is when you attempt to log into the game or forum and get a notification.
As to when it happens, that’s variable. It depends on how busy support is but is very likely to be 1 or 2 days after the report was sent off. If they are very busy it could be longer.
During the time your account is suspended, all your trading post orders that were in process still continue. Nothing about that is changed. So you may put up any buy or sell orders that you want and pick up the results after the suspension is over.
Each succeeding suspension is longer but I don’t recall ever seeing by how much.
Okay thanks for the responses guys. I’m asking this because I can’t log into the game at this time due to having real life stuff to do today, and I was hoping that someone from the support team could tell me if I was suspended, although I probably could just send in a ticket lol.
Does that mean I won’t be able to post in the forums during the ingame suspension period?
And does the 72 hour timer start ticking when I log in and see the message or does it start when its first implemented? Because if it starts when I first try to log in, then it would be a bit longer time where I wouldn’t be able to access the game. I’d honestly prefer if the suspension started as soon as possible since I’m busy this weekend, and play mostly during the week, and I really just want to know whats going on in regards to this whole situation,
To be honest I didn’t even know that simple bad language was reportable, since I assumed that people that didn’t want to see those words would just use the chat filter and be fine (I guess I didn’t read the rules well enough). When one comment slips like that and you wish as much as you could to take it back, that in my mind seems like a much different issue from excessive verbal flaming and fighting or continued harassment or discrimination.
You won’t be able to log in the forum or the game.
I’m actually not sure when the 72 hour timer starts. I suspect it starts the first time you try to log in. I’ve seen too many posts where someone says they tried to log in and got a 72 hour suspension. It’s never any other lesser time, like 20 hours or 30 minutes, which they could get if they don’t log in frequently. Since they want you to know you’re being punished and some people may not log in for several days, then it would make sense for the timer to start with an attempted log in, but I’m just guessing here.
Just because someone gets reported, doesn’t mean they will get suspended. There is a line that needs to be crossed. It’s always possible that one comment won’t cross that line, but it depends on what you said.
Since the forum is tied to it maybe logging into the forum will trigger it. You could always log into the forum a few times a day and see if you get a suspension notice.
Since Gaile is busy, it’s unlikely she will tell you that you are suspended as you can find that out by logging in.
Don’t make a ticket. If you aren’t suspended but in consideration then they can’t tell you and if you are then it may still be something that starts with the next login.
