Hi Amber, I understand your concern. The bug report function is not the best way cause generally you don’t get any feedback. The purpose is to detect bugs not to have contact with us customers
In this case I would advise you to file a support ticket: You can find more information on how to do this in this sticky
Support will tell you if it is ok to use the slot or not

For something like this, an in-game report just doesn’t do the job. Please contact Support by filing a ticket through the “Ask a Question” tab on that linked page. They will be able to assist you.
For tips on what information to provide in a ticket — mostly intended for security reasons to establish that you own the account — please read this post and provide as many suggested details as possible to expedite the ticket.

Well one reason is they might catch it later and delete the slot. If you have a character you are working on or a mule holding a lot of stuff, this could be annoying. Another thing is, some people are very honest and it would bother them to have something that doesn’t truly belong to them.
Thanks for (all the) replies. I have opened a ticket, I used the closest appropriate header (Gameplay) and am await ing response.
I reported it because I’d rather not exploit a bug.
When I have a reply I will post it here, so that people with the same problem can look it up.

AmberEZ, although it doesn’t affect me personally and I don’t work for Anet it is good to see players exercising honesty.

This player is being honest and rightfully conservative with this situation. If it’s our error, and there’s nothing sketchy going on, likely we’ll simply tell the player to keep the item with our blessings. But we want to be aware of potential bugs, and we greatly appreciate the reports of players to help us make sure that everything is functioning properly.
I reported it because I’d rather not exploit a bug.
And that is absolutely awesome. <3 !

Who uses trade to sell? Haven’t seen that since there’s no trade system. And you’re implying not reporting a bug is the same as scamming people? shame on you sir.

I think he’s saying that whether or not one reports something that benefits you says something about a person’s character. Like letting a cashier know he’s given you too much change or forgotten to scan an item.

Its just a point that people who are honest on small things will be honest on large things, and vice versa. It’s the basic underlying character of a person who isn’t comfortable with having something that doesn’t belong to them, no matter how they got it.

Hey, I think we figured it out! If you purchased a character slot during the Beta Weekend Event, then the extra is a normal “glitch” of the system that actually works to your benefit.
You’re clear to keep the slot, and thank you again for your honesty and your good question!
(If on the other hand you did not purchase anything during our beta period, we’ll probably want to look further BUT you’re still ok to keep that slot!)

I’d like you to look with the team once again at the possible roots of the bug.
I know of at least two similar situations (one is myself) where players did not buy anything during the BWEs and still received more slots than purchased.
One of my friends bought some back in the first month after launch and encountered this bug, but I remember numerous people writing about it back then, and even remember someone on your twitter writing that you’re looking into it. I presume it was later fixed to not occur in the future.
But… I purchased 3 myself at one time few months back (but already in 2013 I believe) and ended up with 9 slots total. I couldn’t really write about it on forums back then for some other reasons.
There is something fishy about this particular purchase. I hope it helps.

I quite resent that implication.
Your first post about the OP reporting a potential, exploitable bug was because he should rather stay silent about it because he saved X amount of gold in a game!
And then with the justification from the devs, you accept it but think it goes against human nature?!? Human nature is to cheat? Come off it, kitten it, your post made me angry this morning… that’s exactly the mentality of all those exploiters out there ruining the game for us who don’t.
Anyhow- won’t derail the rest of the topic, kudos to the OP for his/her honesty and gratz on an extra char slot now received “with Anet’s blessing”

It’s called morality, look it up some time.
It’s the same concept that would mean one person would go back into, say, a bank to hand back the extra cash the teller had accidentally given you, and someone like you who would probably pocket it think he’d “got one over on the man”, whileignoring the fact the teller may very well have been fired.
And no, ‘morality’ has no shades of grey, you’re honest or not, it’s simple.

Entertaining to read how you people get so upset about this. I was simply stating most people would not have reporting such a thing. I don’t understand the white knighting here. Not reporting a bug in “A GAME” as Dondarrion calls it, =/=evil. And while you present nice and shiny examples, most of them are barely examples of “morality”. I wouldn’t give back money to a bank if there would be no implications, yet I’d save a drowning toddler in a heartbeat. So yes, there are loads of grey areas whereas it’s a multicoorp taking a small hit or a human life on the line.
I got maybe 5 responses white knighting his decision, and that is fine. What I think is funny however that you debate most people would do this, because I bet you 9/10 people wouldn’t have! Anyways i’ll stop derailing this bug thread.
Good people on the internet (especially an MMO) are rare, so you also have my thanks for making this community better ;-)

As promised, update after I received a reply from the support team.
They informed me that I can keep the character slot as a gift from them.
Also thank you Gaile, for telling about the beta bug, I think I might have purchased a slot during the weekend they gave all of us free gems to test the store.
I will proceed to make my 7th character in the near future then! : D
