Q:
Refund for hard copies?
Your brothers would each need to contact support. If there is a refund it will be sent to the card that was used to buy it.

Well, you will need to work out the refund method with support. Those are the people who will decide one way or another. In general though, it’s the account holders they want to talk to. If that’s you then you contact them. If its your brothers, they contact.
If you paid in cash, then you didn’t buy it from ArenaNet directly. Any refund would have to be discussed with the retailer you purchased the game from.

This indeed.
Arenanet’s refund policy goes for direct customers (through credit card) or for resellers (the shop you bought it at). But when you bought the game through a reseller it means the reseller has to ask for the refund. This means they are investing time and effort with no profit and sometimes they hesitate to do so. Besides that they dont always know bout arenanet’s refund policy and are afraid that they loose money. Just keep in mind when they dont refund you, it tells more bout the reseller then bout arenanet. so judge the reseller for it and not arenanet

Direction of my money spent
Me→Vendor→ArenaNet
There should be no reason ArenaNet shouldn’t be able to refund me for my hard copies. The only reason would be is that ArenaNet gave Vendors FREE copies to sell

No, the gave your vendor cheaper copies to sell. Arenanet doesnt know how much you paid and how much profit the vendor made. it really is the vendor you need to talk to.

Apparently you can not get a refund directly from ArenaNet. Read this thread. Someone else asked the same thing and got a response: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Can-i-return-the-retail-version-of-game
By the way, I am not sure why you would expect this game to operate differently from other games in terms of refunds. Whenever I buy a computer or a game or a piece of furniture or anything else, and I want to return it, I always have take the item back to the retailer. Contacting the designer/manufacturer doesn’t get me a refund.

Other games do not usually offer a refund. Arenanet does but apparently only for digital purchases. And I don’t know what you’ve been buying but contacting the designer/manufacturer usually is the best option in terms of getting a refund, especially digital items.
Even if they sold vendors cheaper versions, they should be able to refund what they sold it to the vendor for.
Why is it hard for you to understand this? If you purchased the game from a retailer, you must contact the retailer to ask what their refund policy is. I guarantee you that Anet will not offer any type of refunds for purchases made outside of their online store.
And just for your information, if you did purchase the game from Anet’s online store, there would be a way for you to ask for a refund.
Of the times when I wanted a refund for something I bought, I have always gone to the place where I actually bought the item. If the thing I bought was digital, I have always gone to the company where I bought it. You are buying something from company A but expecting company B to give you a refund. I don’t see how that is going to happen.
From what person/company did you buy the digital version? If they have a web site I will go to the web site for you and look up their return policy and will post it here, just to help you out.

Company B gave Company A that something to sell in the first place. If company B is offering a refund on their product it should go for the hard copy also. Its the same product, for the same price.
I bought it from gamestop and another from walmart. Both do not give refunds.
If they don’t give refunds then you are out of luck.

I know that, that was not the point of this post……

Company B didn’t give Company A anything. Company A bought the product from Company B to resell. Why would Company B offer you a refund for something that Company A did. Company A would have to offer you the refund then get a refund from Company B.
The pricing between Company A and B aren’t even the same. Having one offer a refund for the other would create a possibility of making money.

If Company A bought it from Company B for 40$ and resold it for 50 then I want atleast 40$ back
If you know you aren’t getting a refund from the retailer where you bought the game, and I linked a thread where someone said ArenaNet wouldn’t give them a refund for their purchase from a retailer, what else is there to accomplish with this thread? I don’t think ArenaNet is going to change their refund policies.
Look, dude. YOU didn’t pay ArenaNet. If you bought the game with cash from <otherstore> THEY paid ArenaNet for the game. No company anywhere is going to put money on your credit card, as a refund for a game that isn’t even registered in your name.
I mean come on, look at this from a neutral perspective. Someone is trying to get a refund, for something they allegedly paid untraceable cash for (do you even have the receipt?). AND they’re trying to get it for an account that isn’t even their own. I mean, if I wrote in demanding a refund for Gassy.8975’s account, claiming he was my little brother and I paid cash and he doesn’t like it, does that sound kosher to you?

You just answered your own thread question. Enjoy both game accounts.

I’m asking them why they don’t
So to sum up: you bought the games from retailers that are VERY clear about their refund policies on games, and now you want a refund from another party because you knew when you bought the games that you couldn’t get a refund from the retailers.
If you buy a book from Amazon that you don’t enjoy reading, would you call up the author and demand they give you back your money? No. You have to negotiate a refund with the vendor you purchased from. Period.

But how does Company B know you paid even $40 for it? You could of had some in-store credit (Fred Meyer for example gives you nearly same-as-cash credit every quarter based on how much you spent the previous, for example). Or maybe they had a sale, and you acquired it at the reseller’s loss (Or Anet sold it to them at a special price for a promotional deal). Then you would be having B give you more money than you spent on it in the first place!
And while often going to the manufacturer can get you prompt and speedy REPLACEMENTS, I’ve never gone to anywhere other than the place of purchase for a refund, either.
If they ArenaNet is offering refunds for their product, it should cover both digital and hard copy. There is almost no difference

But not a receipt from ANet.
How many companies do you know of that honors the receipt from a totally separate company? NONE, that’s how many. If a company didn’t get money from you directly then they won’t refund directly. ANet didn’t get money from you and you can’t get a refund from them. The company you directly bought from is the only company that will give you a refund. That’s basic information you should already know to get around in life.
You spent ZERO dollars with ANet and that’s how much they will refund you.

Nope there is a huge difference. They offer refunds to who-ever they sell the product. In this case if your reseller asks arenanet to refund them so they can refund you they will refund them (if of course your reseller makes sure all requirements are met). Your reseller is however refusing to do so, so you should complain with them (and yeah, they dont havea public forum you can misuse to wine bout it forever, but thats not arenanets problem.
Bottom line your problem is with the reseller and not with arenanet. Please stop misusing this public forum for something that clearly is a problem for the reseller.

Man do I feel silly. All this time, I thought the OP was just trying to scam Anet. But now that I think of it, it’s just a case of him not understanding how retail businesses work. Allow me to simplify an example, so that he may understand.
Suppose I purchased a bar of soap from Walmart, but I didn’t like it so I try to return it. Walmart says they don’t refund used soap, so I try to go to K-mart instead. K-mart doesn’t accept the return, mainly because it wasn’t purchased from their store in the first place.
Same situation here. OP purchased two retail box copies of Guild Wars 2 from GameStop. Because both boxes were opened, and the registration codes used, they cannot and will not give him a refund. Saddened by his loss, he decides to ask Anet to refund. However, the games weren’t purchased at the Anet store, so the refund is denied.
Different examples, but same conclusion. No returns are accepted, and the OP gets to enjoy owning two copies of Guild Wars 2.
This thread will be closed tomorrow, so hopefully my simplified examples will put him at ease.
*note – Apologies to the other posters who gave similar examples. I know they had given examples to help the OP, but I think they were too complicated for the OP to understand.

This is correct. We can’t refund money we didn’t receive directly and naturally we do not engage in cash transactions.
