The email or contact information is still the same. Again, the account isn’t compromised, but the hacker or hackers have added an authenticator. This is preventing the actual owner from accessing the account now.

First make sure the computer she’s using is virus free. Then check to make to sure her e-mail is secure (if you have to make a new one to make sure of this, then do so, ANet will work with you even if you aren’t on the e-mail on the account). Then have her initiate a ticket. Support will only work with the account owner.
The account will likely be banned in the process of securing the account (while ANet investigates who owns the account).
When access is back in your wife’s hands have her log in and kitten the damage. If there has and there likely has been, have her request for a roll back. She’ll lose any progress she makes but it’s better than losing everything.
If she’s in a guild and has guild bank withdrawal privileges, message the guild and tell them her account has been compromised and to temporarily remove her access to protect the guild bank. ANet can not at this time roll back a guild bank.

If the ‘hackers’ have changed the password, and enabled an authenticator, then the account is compromised. This also means the account of the email address associated with the game account is also compromised.
First thing, the email account needs to be secured, as it may have sensitive information in it affecting more than just the game account. Passwords or such information to many sites (financial and otherwise) may be in that account. Scan for viruses and key-loggers. After the computer and email accounts are secure, contact CS for assistance.

Man, they were relentless. Everyday for almost two weeks straight. She’d change her password to the wildest things imaginable . . . and they still got through.

I can’t tell where this stands, but this is clearly a case of account and e-mail compromise. I suggest that your wife create a brand new e-mail account and then contact Support via the link at the top of this page. Click “Submit a request” and she will be able to create a ticket with the new, uncompromised e-mail address.

There is something going very wrong, 4th member of my guild is getting hacked the same way (we have like 50 active players). Some of them has extreme computer security, authentication on e-mail, more of the best spyware and antivirus programs, 20+ characters long passwords with capitals and numbers, tho they still get their account stolen.
One guild mate made a new e-mail on a NEW PC after getting hacked, and there he resolved his gw2 account problem, then he got hacked again a day later.
I suspect the security problem isn’t on the customers’ side.

Yeah I’ve noticed a couple of hacks in my guild too. Granted I don’t think they had authenticators. Still would be nice to know where the problem lies. I’ve got 2 stage authentication on my account, and email and if those with similar security measure have been hacked… Well I’m glad I didn’t save my credit card details last time I went to the TP…

My acc is Arnyek.4057. Hacked aswell. Today afternoon I realized that everything is lost from my account: all of characters loot, account bank empty too. I was used the Account Authentivation but something gone wrong with it because somebody used my account today morning from China. I hope you can restore something on my account or do something to don’t start over the game from beginning. I spent lot of time in game and somebody steal everything in 10 mins.
If there was a way to block international IP addresses, this would be a none issue.
They would find a way around that too..

They are monitoring her email account via web. Anything your wife EVER used that email account for is subject to being hacked. Change all website logins ever connected with that email account and secure it (start with changing it’s password and notifying the provider that you suspect it has been compromised). Consider any 2 tier authentication on the email account or just abandon it and start a new one (that is the most safe). You need to turn on mobile authentication on the GW2 account once secured (if possible as that takes away a hackers ability to do so and lock your wife out).

That’s just FUD. These days most hacks are because of hacked email accounts (from what I have seen).

All it takes is for a datbase on a fan site to get hacked and then emails and passwords possibly are out there. If people used the same password, then chances are they’ll be hacked.
Then there are phishing emails…
Indeed, and most people do use the same password/username for everything, also, hacked accounts/emails are almost never done by the person abusing the account, these are often mass crackings that the data is then mined from and sold in bulk, the buyer then uses that info to get into accounts and sell items/gold for real money.
My account got hacked today. I am back in to survey the damage…
Everything that was of any worth and could be sold is gone, even the bags on my characters. My gold is gone (i wasn’t really rich), my karma spent for Orrian Jewelry Boxes which the hacker left me…
My password for my Account was unique and a combination of letters and special characters, i do not think that i am to blame here for being careless.
I asked for an Account Rollback, does anyone know if i can go on playing meanwhile?

That is terrible, i hope something gets done quickly against it.
If it was an Anet issue, it would be a lot more then 6. My guild of almost 500 had 2 people in the last month. People lie, people will lie about their “security” to place blame on the company when in fact it really is their fault.
I would highly recommend getting authentication on your account AND on your new email. I know google does authentication with your phone.
