I want to change my main character’s name to the name of another character I have. I could delete the character whose name I want to use, then buy a name change for the character I want that name on. My question is would the name of the character that I delete be immediately available for use?

Thanks, but the name I have is super special. Is there any way to guarantee that I will get the name after I delete the character? I mean super duper special name everyone would want to have.

According to the in-game description, I think you will be able to use the name if you act within 24 hours. =)

Well, I hope so…the deleted character’s name should be reserved in and for your account only for 24 hours, and hopefully the Name Change Contract will be able to distinguish that. If not, you would have to wait until it becomes ‘available’ at the 24-hour mark, and then use the Name Change.

Now I’m super duper curious now as to what this super duper name is that everyone would want!

I will tell you after I change it! The world will be jealous. Lets just hope that the name change contract recognizes the name of the deleted character as being available within 24 hours. But I’m still unsure because….

1. The wiki says I’ll be able to use the name if I act within 24 hours.

2. Gaile Gray, ArenaNet Support Liaison, said the name will be available 24 hours after I delete the character.

So I don’t know what to do still …

I’ve deleted characters to create a new character with the same name before. On all those occasions the name was available immediately after deletion. It should go smoothly for you.

These were years old names from GW1 that I really cared about keeping, so I know how important a name can be.

As long as you claim the deleted name within 24 hours, it will still be yours. Wait more than 24 hours and someone else can claim it. I have deleted characters myself and been able to claim the same name on different characters within a 24-hour period.

Thank you very much for this. Are you sure it will work with the name change charter? because i’m not creating a new character with that name. I will be giving that name to an already existing character using the name change charter.

Yes, that is the question…..Will Name Change Contracts recognize names from deleted characters on the same account as ‘available’ before the 24 hours has passed, or as ‘reserved’ even though they are ‘reserved’ on/for the same account? Has anyone tried this, or only used reserved names on new characters?

I have changed one of my characters names using a name change contract and a name that I had deleted on another character:

I “stored” a character (let’s call this Character A) with a name that I wanted for my main(Character B ).
I then deleted Character A – then used a name change contract on Character B using the name from Character A.

I did this all in the space of 5 minutes….I didn’t encounter any issues.

Sooo… what was this super duper name? ShadyNZL isn’t the only curious one.

The name is The Black Reaper. It’s from a show called Darker Than Black.
