Q:

So I come across a group of players (4-5) and all they’re doing is bursting down a large amount of monsters in one spot/area. They appear to be running back and forth in an exact path to and from the monsters everytime, almost as if their walking was a set path. They’ve been here for a good hour, but why? They’ve likely already completed the “Heart” goal.

And the Report feature for botting was vague, unsubstantiated reports may get me banned so does that mean they have to actually speak in chat? But how will I get the bot to speak in chat if the player is not at the computer? If I do report them without chat logs of them speaking I may get banned so how do I go about getting these guys investigated for botting?

We do want to hear from you. The chance of someone getting dinged for invalid reports is very slim. I mean very slim. Quite frankly, the reason that the mild warning is included in the notes is simply to let people know “Don’t try to grief other players with fake reports. We’ll notice that and smite you!”

usually there are a few ways i identify bots.
1) a lot of times they appear to “warp” from one spot to another then snap back to the original spot when they are done fighting.
2) they tend to run in groups in a line with no variance from 1 person to another then stack up on each other to fight.
3) easy bots have just random letters for names :-)

A lot of times if i am unsure I will send them a whisper telling them I am concered they are a bot and asking them to reply to me.

Not a perfect way to do it but hope that helps

When in doubt report, and let Anet sort it out.

I actually think I would prefer this wording to the scary, official-sounding one in the game.

I agree, they should change the message for Report Botting. It can really discourage people from reporting people they think may be botting.

I don’t know how the team would like my “smite” comment, but I’ll pass along your approval.

I love the SMITE it fits right in with most of the players around here. I am sure it would get some laughs

How about replacing all instances of EXCESSIVE with “too much” ? EXCESSIVE is just.. EXCESSIVE. I don’t need to be admonished by my video game for sending 3 emails in a row (for example).

I also agree that your (Gaile) line is perfect.
