How do I report gold sellers? Not in game, I know how to do that, but on the forums. I received a pm from one today (just now actually since I just logged in to my account) and I clicked the flag to report the post however I have to type something in before I can submit it. What do I type in the box?
There is a report button on the PMs. Just as with the forums posts.
Please report the PM that you received (rather than trying to report the sender) using the “report” function. You can simply note something like “RMT Spam” or “Gold seller soliciation.” The message isn’t too critical, since the team will be able to see the body of the reported PM.
We’ve closed quite a few of these spammers and appreciate the help dealing with any remaining offenders.
chuckles I just got one of those today as a forum PM. I was so happy to see a forum PM and the title of the message was “I LOVE YOU!”
I thought…awesome..I posted something that someone really likes. Lets see what they had to say.
Then I saw the body if the message and I was swearing up a storm like Yosemite Sam.
Ruined my happy moment.
Oh and btw..I reported it and deleted it.
Thanks for continuing to report these #(%&#%.. I mean those naughty, naughty mail spammers.
Can’t you not just stop selling the game in certain areas, for instance most players believe the botters come from (some country) so why not block people from buying over there? The game is not available in all countries so why not cut off one more.
People ask about blocking IPs. The answer is just one word: Proxies. If someone is in, say, Asia, but proxies into the US — and quite a few RMTers do that — then that subterfuge poses a challenge to detection until they start spamming mails or chat, or start delivering gold, at which time we happily terminate the account.
Proxy or not, I’d prefer to have the ability to lock out all other countries but my own. RMTers proxying into the US is of no concern to me since I don’t live in that country. I wouldn’t put it past them to do it, but if they waste that much time setting up proxies for other countries to try and find the one I live in to attempt an account breach then its time well wasted. I’d imagine many just wouldn’t bother with non-US account breach attempts after a while.

Just because someone lives in Asia or in that “certain country” does not necessarily mean they are RMTers or botters or whatever. That’s racial profiling and stereotyping, and being an Asian person living in Asia myself, I find that line of thinking slightly offensive. There are A LOT of people in this region of the world that play the game honestly, and your perception of the player base from this part of the world is skewed by bias.
I see xenophobia is alive and well in the Guild Wars community, as well as total ignorance of the RMT ‘industry’ and where a lot of its proceeds end up (hint: by no means all RMT is based in China), not to mention an obvious lack of comprehension about proxies and how they operate.
Just let us conclude that an IP ban will ban a lot of innocent people while the ones that are targeted will find ways to avoid it. So IP bans simply don’t work.
Players should not forget that other players might be travelling as well. If I take my laptop and go from Europe to any other continent for some time I would like to continue playing there. So even temporary IP bans are not working for the travelling people.
Just forget the IP ban idea. It will never work as planned!
Better solution is to Ban MAC address of lan card ! Almost all user have integrated lan card.

You cannot collect any data that you would like to have. In some countries it is against the law, to collect more information than needed to running the game. And you cannot ban based on information that you are not considered to have.
We don’t like to have a police state or something like that in games. So lets stay reasonable.
I got a PM from a gold seller too. I immediately reported it.
Besides in game, they’ve now decided to harass people on the forums as well.
Also had a PM where i was told someone loved me… sigh

Thanks for the response Gaile, that answers my question.

Hey, I was asking a simple question, I used the quotes as to not offend or pick out a single country. How do you know that I am not Asian? how can you conclude racial stereotyping through a computer screen, I didn’t mention any country, I was just asking a question.

Besides, this sounds far more racist than anything I said :/

Xenophobia no, over-sensitivity, hell yes. I would not say ignorance, more along the lines of “not having knowledge in RMT nor proxies” which is the reason for my question, because I did not know.
