Guild Wars 2

I just received an email that looks like an obvious scam… but it appears to have come from the official ArenaNet at guildwars2.com email address.

I’m guessing there’s some kind of forwarding trick going on…I just wanted to make people aware so they don’t get tricked into giving out account details.

If ArenaNet would like more info, let me know.

yep, i got one of those too….they are getting the email addresses from this forum too – i got it while I was logged in one day in this forum…I don’t play many / any other games …nor have many friends that are into gw2. so it’s not like some random list took a chance. If you copy and paste the link ‘as it appears’, you’ll see anet doesn’t have such a page to begin with lol

Got one too. They are definitely getting it from the official forums because the emails are too specific to Guild Wars 2 players.

Also, they are spoofing the email of ArenaNet somehow.

Too bad the authorities would rather waste resources spying on your Skype conversations instead of going after legitimate web criminals! :P

Not that hard to spoof a from address. You simply tell your email client what to list as the from address and there you go!

You don’t hear about all the people that do not have Guild Wars accounts, and still get the email; mostly because they don’t have accounts and can not log in to the forums to post about it.

If ArenaNet’s security was breached, we would get millions of posts about scam emails and hacked accounts.

And the people who are getting identical emails but purporting to be from Blizzard about their WoW account. Whether they have one or not.

Also I have yet to receive a single spam email on either my main email (which I use for nearly everything, including GW2 and WoW), or my old yahoo email that I keep specifically for spammy things – and which my GW1 account was registered on.

They may be harvesting email addresses from somewhere, but it’s not these forums.
