The Disappearing Items
Yeah, this is happening, but I mean, look at this game. Its not that old, and Anet probably can’t do much about it. I’ve lost over 150g worth of stuff due to errors in this game.. but… Its a game. Just run CoF for like 10 hours to get the money to buy the mats. Anet will eventually fix this, so just wait until they can.

Telling someone to just farm a dungeon for 10 hours to get gold to buy mats that were taken from them after they spent hours farming to get them doesn’t seem a bit ridiculous to you?
The fact that you’ve lost over 150g in items, but seem completely nonchalant about it is the exact reason they aren’t forced to take action.

True, but its just a game as well. This game isn’t all that old, and Anet can’t do the things WoW’s GMs could right now. Money is pretty easy to obtain in this game, so it shouldn’t take too long to get those mats back
My boyfriend lost over 300-350g worth of items, no money spent on them either, all farmed. Think about how long it would take to redo all that
This game isn’t all that old
That just means they have less logs to look through. The fact that they don’t want to aknowledge the mistake is the bigger issue…

I am unclear how you think an update — a “patch” — would take away items. I’ll certainly ask about this, but I just can’t see how that would be possible. Whenever we have an issue, like the issue with the karka chests, we have to code the changes to give the missing items to people. So looking at that, we’d have to code to take away items, and that just doesn’t seem possible to me.
I’m not a dev, I’ll be the first to admit it. And I am sorry that this happened. But while I cannot say why it happened, I don’t think it’s related to a build. What are your ticket numbers? It may be helpful for me to see the history on the ticket.

It could be the result of unintended consequences of complex code interaction (aka a bug). Unless the implication is that everything in game is in fact WAI and operating per design.
That would certainly explain why there is no way in-game to report mesmers exploiting into towers (i.e., Hacking).
Actually, you might be used as a farm for someone. They have your account information and are just waiting for you to get your materials and they just “farm” you.
I suggest changing your GW and email password (and make them different).
Could be a result from an artificial roll back,
Personal Example:
“New Build Available in 2 hours”
I’d leave L.A. and head over and run a quick T.A. path while I wait.
20 minutes after the message I’d get dcd and the patch will auto start.
When i log back in, I would be in L.A. same spot where I was when the message popped up, any items gained during that time would be gone.

Except wouldn’t that only rollback the progress of a few hours? I know that’s happened to me before. But it couldn’t undo all the time that would have gone into farming 100s of those mats… I doubt it.
Theoretically, what could happen is that the last server save occurred right in the middle of him transferring items from his bag to his bank, Incredibly unlikely, but possible, given the large sample size. However, what is far far more likely is that he either accidentally deleted the items, or has misplaced them, perhaps in a minimized bank tab. I highly recommend he carefully go through each and every one of his inventory slots, across all characters, one by one, even ones that “could not possibly have them” its far far more likely that hes misplaced them than an incredibly small chance bug has happened to him not once, but twice, especially if all that’s missing is the fine crafting mats.

Items that disappear is unacceptable. Anet support not doing anything about it is completely unacceptable.
I tried to bump a thread regarding this issue, but it didn’t get bumped so I will leave a link here:

Since it happened twice, I would be very suspicious of someone having hacked your account and is stealing mats from you. They may not have taken money so as to make you think it was a bug and not theft. Besides changing your account information, I would update your ticket so support can check this theory.
Similar thing happened to me a few days ago, game patched and once in the game I couldn’t find my soul bound shield for the life of me.
In situations like these, it would be helpful to have a “sent” folder with the 10 most recent sent mail that can’t be deleted and is just automatically updated. Though that probably won’t happen. :P
I hope you get all of your mats back. If your account was compromised, then perhaps you can get your account roll-backed to when you have most, if not all, of those items.
