So a week or two ago my account got banned for “botting, extended unattended play, using macros or similar behavior”. I wrote a ticket and did get my account back. However, when I asked what it was that I got banned for, they refused to tell me saying that information regarding detection methods must remain confidential. So I am trying to find out what my violation was by myself. I am ruling out botting and macros because I do not do either of those.

So here is my question. Sometimes while I do homework I will find a nice place in game to be so that I can read my guild chat. When I am about to be logged out, I will move my character forward so that I do not log out and I can keep reading guild chat between chemistry problems. Is this considered “extended unattended play”? If so, I will be sure to just let my character log out!!

People do get banned by accident, so you may have been banned for botting while never doing it.

As for ‘extended unattended play’, I don’t know as they’ve ever defined it. The game does kick you out for standing around and I guess getting around that might provoke a ban. I’ve seen at least one thread asking this question. It went unanswered. I suggest you either log out or go to character selection screen if you are going to be idling for awhile.

The CS agents and others who post on the forums do not make the rules. They work under the managers and so on who tell them what to do, and their policy is that such things are not to be discussed. Therefore, you will not receive an answer.

I am not going to explain how to stop others from replicating it (and I don’t know myself) but there is a known way to stay dead in a map for longer periods than allowed by the game, I witnessed this myself in wvw today, if you wvw a lot and leave your character dead if you get killed and do anything to stop the auto kick I can only guess that would flag up the extended unattended play.
