Why do I have to authenticate multiple times?

Since the past few days I’ve been needing to authenticate my IP address.. The game tells me it’s a new IP but I’ve only been using my own computer for this. I also have to do this every time I log into the GW2 forums. So why? Is it because I’ve enabled e-mail authentication? I haven’t changed my settings for a long time though.

It’s because your dynamic IP is changing. This is in place to prevent someone logging into your account from, say, China…which greatly increases security.
Seems odd that it’d be changing as much as you describe, though. Do you travel a lot?
I do wonder if it’s changing wildly if something suspicious is going on with your account. Maybe a call to your ISP would be in order, asking them to confirm that ISP ###, ###, and ### are legitimately theirs.
I think that is what I would do, if I saw myself logging in from, say, Washington and Florida. But for full disclosure, one player in the UK was “logging in from” England, Scotland, and Wales, and he wasn’t ever leaving his living room. So the “dynamic IP” can be a contributor to this.

Thing is, it says it’s the same location every time, yet I still have to authenticate it.. I am only using GW2 on this one computer.
Thank you very much for answering!

I live in the UK and the last couple of weeks i have been getting quite a few dc’s and when i relog in i have to authenticate my email. I have since found out that my ISP provider has been (and will continue to do) upgrading of equipment from 2.00-4.00 am gmt

Same location does not equal same exact IP. Check with your ISP and ask if your IP address rotates/changes.

i too am having the same exact problem. i have to authenticate my account EVERY time i log in from the same computer. it’s becoming very tedious.
I’ve had this exact same issue today, but it turns out my account was hacked. Some IP from Arizone, it seems. Nearly everything wiped. My ticket has already been submitted. :\

An IP address lookup, if you don’t have an easy way to see it on your computer, can tell you if your IP is matching what is on the authenticator.
