Guild Wars 2

Short version:

1) Received several password reset emails overnight, and an email from ArenaNet saying an attempt to access my account was made from an IP in China (I live in the UK)

2) Eventually managed to get ArenaNet to change my account email address

3) Still getting password reset emails every day

4) Customer support didn’t tell me if my account had been compromsed or give me any information about why I was getting these emails

So here I am, wondering why I’m getting password reset emails every day, and wondering if my account has been hacked. Anyone have any idea?

Make a virus check. If you are completely unsure, format your computer without data backup (virus can transfer/be transferred in a new/existing backup) and reinstall Windows.

After this, let your e-mail address be changed again, change your password and use mobile authentication. Remove all authorized IP addresses and never save your network again.

I forgot to mention I also changed my password. I scanned my PC with multiple anti-malware programs and it seems to be clean.

Is the incorrect email address the first one you used for GW2? I’ve changed my account email many times, but the old one still appears under my username in the forums. If you want to change it, you can do so via the forum profile link – if you press that, you’ll see a big, red “edit profile” button

Sounds like phishing to me – just make sure that the password for your e-mail address is different to the password for your Guild Wars 2 game, and if you have email authentication active as well, you’re pretty much safe. Ignore the emails asking for you to change your password.

Did you mention that new email in any email that was sent from or sent to your old email address?
