A couple of days ago, I attempted to log onto one of my characters when I got home (not going to say name) but strangely, when I clicked play, it asked me to change my name. I thought that was odd, because honestly, my name wasn’t offensive at all, I have many people who love it and no one has ever taken offense to it. It really isn’t offensive. So I thought it was just some game bug, and renamed it the same, but took out the “s” at the end. Couple days later, my account is suspended for 3 days. I had no warning, no email, no nothing telling me this could happen, as it was very unexpected. I’m also outraged at the length of time it got suspended for. 3 days? I submitted a ticket and would really like to talk to someone because I think this is unfair, and I got no warning.

You got 2 warnings.
1. The rules you said yes to before you started to play. http://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal
2. The message to change the character name. If you did not start to check what was wrong then, nobody can help you now.

Not exactly warnings. When a player breaks the rule, before you just straight up suspend them, it is customary to at least send them an e-mail warning them about what could potentially happen if he doesn’t change it. I had no idea what was going on, and thought the game had bugged out, since it has many strange bugs already. How hard would it be to just send me an e-mail and tell me? Also why didn’t a staff member simply contact me and just tell me what was going on? I’ve seen multiple people in this game get banned now without any warnings and direct reasons. I’m not the only one who would like some clearance.

They don’t email in such cases. Often said in this forum.
You have been lucky. Anet is growing softer. At first you got a suspension for first time offense.

All of this was already available knowledge on this forum.

Still. This is a horrible way to “suspend” players, and I’m not even the only player who’s been upset by this. They could handle it much better, and just won’t put in the effort. Very disappointed in anet.

I don’t think, it could be done better. Differently, yes of course. But better?
They would end up with endless discussions on why the name is good or bad. It’s less work to say “change it”, then doing anything else.

As I said, they say now “change it” and only if you fail, will you get a suspension. (I think, that if the offense is clear and straight, it might get a suspension on the first time. But I’m not sure about it.)

So you think a 3day suspension for a name that really wasn’t even actually offensive to anybody, rather than just have a GM or someone e-mail me or tell me “please change the name or we will take further action” is okay? Lol. Had they just told me to change it, otherwise I’d get suspended, then I would have changed it immediately. But clearly, the customer service can’t even do that. Yep, it’s totally okay. Great job anet.

They told you to change it. That you don’t understand or that you continued without checking on what was going on, is not their fault.

BTW That’s just the kind of discussion they don’t want to have with players.

You used a drug reference, clearly prohibited by the Naming Policy. You then renamed with the same drug reference.

Repeated naming violations may result in longer suspension, and even account terminations. Next time, choose wisely.
