Youtube Monetization policy question
Well stated from official posts in the linksville forum:
“This forum is a place for everybody to show off the cool Guild Wars 2 related websites, tools, videos and other resources around the internet.”
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/links/About-This-Forum/first#post19898
“Note: Gameplay videos, links to blogs and other such informative content should be posted in Linksville.”
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/fangen/About-Fan-Generated-Content/first#post19929
So it’s suggesting you can make game playvideos…

Right I have seen this but can you monitize them? I haven’t seen any office yes or no on this.
Something like this http://www.valvesoftware.com/videopolicy.html would be amazing for those of us who put stuff on youtube.

Perhaps, this will answer your question:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-content-terms-of-use/
Readily found at the bottom of the page, if you should need more clarifications. =)

No, not and make money off of it.

You can advertise it all you want. You can’t however make money from it.

No, i get that, that is why you see almost no content for it anywhere. Foolish on their part.
Hope they understand that this is the main reason youtubers do not put content up as much as they should.
If blizzard and EA allows this arena net sure as hell better or they will not be able to compete with the other MMOs out there. They are the ONLY mmo that doesn’t allow this and this. Hell even SOE games are allowed to do this.
Its not worth the content producers time, its that simple. When PS2 has more youtube channels then GW2 there is a problem.

You do know that neither Blizzard nor EA allows people without permission to earn money by streaming their games, right? Exactly the same way ArenaNet does.

The Non disclosure agreement is for content that is in testing. This wise wildly spread during the closed and public beta’s but now only for the select lucky people who are testers for new content. So that has nothing to do with it.
You are allowed to publish youtube video’s taken from the game . You are not allowed to do this for commercial use. This doesn’t means you’re not allowed to make money. To publish on youtube you have to invest in video capturing software and video editing software. So that is a valid non-commercial argument.
You are not allowed to claim content as your own.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I went and read the Valve information in the link provided.
‘Use of our content in videos must be non-commercial. By that we mean you can’t charge users to view or access your videos. You also can’t sell or license your videos to others for a payment of any kind.’
I don’t see the difference between their policy and ArenaNet’s. I am not sure what is meant by ‘You are free to monetize using YouTube’s sharing program’; maybe you can do that with any content, if that means you can have advertisers on your videos or page that shows gameplay.
Send a ticket into Support and ask what you can and can not do. I know I have seen ads on YouTube videos that showed GW2 gameplay. I think anyone can have advertising on their channel, but you can not charge people to watch GW2 gameplay.

I see ads everywhere, spammed on every gaming site….
As for money, no you cannot make money off their IP, as is the case with most company’s you do not own. You can’t run around using other peoples work to make profit… And I highly doubt blizzard or EA allow making money off content either.
In fact.. http://www.reddit.com/r/battlefield3/comments/10d00m/ea_flagged_all_my_bf3_videos_on_youtube/
Blizzard on the other hand, they have tons of money so they probably don’t care. So they may allow it with proper credit. I mean, everyone copies them already in everything they do as it is..

And then there is this:
“Thanks for getting in touch with us with your inquiry about placing your video on YouTube or other video or image hosting sites of that type.
First, I just want to be clear that we cannot allow the use of ANY materials from our Closed Beta or Stress Tests. That is absolutely forbidden.
Secondly, our Content Terms of Use (http://www.guildwars...rms-of-use.html) does not allow the monetization of any property related to Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 and it clearly states that all use of our game assets must be used for non-commercial, personal purposes only. Please note that we reserve our right to enforce our Terms of Use at any time, for any reason cited in the Terms. However, at this time we are not actively enforcing the prohibition against placing Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 videos of your own making on a monetized YouTube page.
So while we cannot actively give you permission to place a video from the BWEs on a monetized page, at the present time we are not pursuing the placement of such videos as long as they are not in breach of our User Agreement (http://www.guildwars...-agreement.html), our Rules of Conduct (http://www.guildwars...of-conduct.html) or any Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 Non-Disclosure Agreement.
Please be sure that you include all the required copyright notations in videos that use Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 assets, as defined in Section 3 of the Guild Wars Content Terms of Use. And if you have further questions, please let us know."

Basically, they’re doing the same thing as they do with 3rd party tools that affect/are used in conjunction with the game : Not going to approve, but as long as it doesn’t break other rules, not going to go after.
Which means, most likely, that if they have a change in this “blind eye” policy we would get a notice.
