i’ve been suspended twice now due to naming restrictions.
these were my toon names: Mofogie, Mofogee, Mofogle, Mofogenous, Mofogeneer

Mofogenous was first flagged by Anet staff. I asked them to provide how the name breaches the code of conduct. They failed to provide a reason, and that is because all my names are gibberish. They even defy rule34, searching on the internet will provide no cohesive nor offensive imagery.

I complied anyway, and renamed it to Naming Violation.
Now a few months later, Mofogeneer has been flagged… and again suspended.

I’m tired of this. My names have been used over 10 years in gaming now, and i’ve never been reported for an offensive name. No one has ever told me in GW2, that my name is offensive, in fact, many said they like it, that it sounds funny.

Anet staff is also inconsistent. why are my oldest characters, Mofogie and Mofogee not flagged? I have kept derivatives of Mofogie on all characters to make it easier for people to keep track of who i am. I cant even remember half my friends list, because most people have very different names across characters. Consistency is important.

This is a total ridiculous waste of time on my part, and the staff. There’s abusive harassers in nearly every pvp match, yet I get flagged for a name no one finds offensive? Come on.

Someone is finding it offensive, because someone is reporting it. Names are reviewed by the moderators when someone reports it. Clearly some of them weren’t being reported. I’m pretty sure you know exactly what’s wrong with (specifically) the first 4 letters of all your names.

Fortunately, I’m sure your post here will help them resolve the inconsistency of only some of them being flagged.

I am destruction itself. I also bake cookies.

Well in all fairness, OP may not be a native English speaker and may be unaware of the meaning of the slang word mofo, or simply didn’t think of it.

I would think that all your names are going to be reported sooner or later OP. Since each report brings a longer and longer suspension you may want to consider renaming all your characters. If you contact support and self report, telling them you were
unaware of the slang term mofo, you can get the option to rename all for free without getting suspended.

Your display name may also be reported and changed by ANet one day. Normally you don’t get a choice of the new display name if they change it. If you self report and ask for a particular one that is consistent with your new character names, maybe they will let you have that one (a small chance, but possible).

thats what i’d first and foremost want: consistency. the first time i was reported, why wasnt i allowed to change all my characters? did the moderator really miss all the other names? Even my account name is Mofogie.

i would like some official word from Anet staff what to do now.

If the person was in a hurry, they might not of seen the others. shrug I don’t know how the support system views info.

Unless you only spvp and do nothing else you have no idea what you where doing when you where reported. It is not instant, it takes time for the report to be reviewed so you could have been reported at any time, not just when your suspension started.

Support must get hundreds, if not thousands, of tickets and in game reports daily. Each support person undoubtably has a stack to work through each day. I doubt they have the time to dig around and look for information outside the ticket/report parameters. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were forbidden to do that. Most companies put a premium on getting tickets opened then closed as fast as possible. If they do, then the individual who looked at your reported name is not going to take the time to do more than exactly what the ticket calls for, as doing more takes longer and will hurt their average ticket closing time (and hurt the money they get paid as well as getting disciplined for taking too long).

Your best bet is to simply contact support and self report. Get all your names changed and start over.

Thousands, yes.

You’re welcome to contact Support via the link at the top of this page. No one on the forums is going to be able to answer your questions or address what you perceive as “inconsistency” in the Naming Policy.

Personally, the instant I saw your name arise in a thread about the Naming Policy, I did wonder why your display name wasn’t similarly censored, based on the policy. I’m not debating the fairness or reasonableness of the policy, but based on that policy, I do think I understand why the name was censored. I will look into the matter, and I believe you’re already having a discussion with CS about this.
