10% "Tax" on selling items in trading post
No one knows for sure because ArenaNet hasn’t said anything about it. Although I do find it real annoying that it says I should receive 5 silver if someone buys my stacked items, and then only get 4 silver and 50 copper. Perhaps ArenaNet is trying to make it hard to impossible to play the auction house like you can in other MMOs
The listing fee for selling on the Trading Post is 5% of the sales price. This listing fee is not returned even if the listing is cancelled.
Upon successful trade an additional 10% fee is deducted from the price, i.e. the total cost of a successful sale is 15%.
Thanks for the info, makes me a bit sad but oh well, what can you do :P
There is a 15% fee; 5% non-refundable list fee and a 10% completed sale fee.
Easy … EVERYONE start listing things 10-15% higher.
I highly dislike this. It makes it almost impossible to make any kind of profit off several methods of making money on the AH. The 5% should either be “it” or it should be bumped to like 10% as the listing fee.
The least you could do is have some notification that the 10% sales tax even exists.
Didn’t they say they were going to indicate this fee somewhere in the trading post UI so that it’s explicit?
15% fees is really a huge amount and its forced on players since there is no direct trade, open stalls or cod exist in game. People are already trading based on trust, send an item to buyer and hope he pays you the agreed amount. It just opens a free opportunity for scammers nothing else.
This is total crap. At least list this stuff flat out in sight so people don’t need to keep doing calculations. It’s dishonest, especially when the game says “you must list higher than merch” but can effectively take away enough that you should have merched it when all is said and done.
A lot of people don’t know about these fees so 1 gold more on than the merch price becomes the lowest price, with everybody competiting there, and then what are you gonna do? I wanted to merch some “useless”/low stat stuff to get gold instead of destroying/removing it from the game, but I guess this is not what is intended.

15% fee? so you lose in mathematical sence to sell your green items to the trade company rather than to a vendor?
No, you do not lose in a mathematical sense. Only if you choose to.
As a seller on the tradepost, you can choose your own price. Just raise your price enough to earn back the 15%.
It’s not your fault if a whole bunch of ignorant people decide to list their items at 1 copper above merchant value. THEY lose 15%.
Just wait it out. People will smarten up, and prices will correct themselves.
Besides, the most profit can be made on raw crafting materials, not green items.
This is bs, I lost 2g because I didn’t know about this!!
Is there anyone besides ANet who is pleased with this?
Well no1 likes paying more. Anet has deemed it healthy to the economy apparently. Which it could be. 15% seems slightly too much to me but what do I know.
Is there anyone besides ANet who is pleased with this?
I’m not so sure that even they are pleased with this. It’s making the value of gold WAY higher than gems. It’s downright silly to buy gems with real money right now, because the value of gold is so high. The economy is set up in a way that the gold prices and gem prices will consistently balance each other out, but it’s currently balanced in a way that the worth of gems is extremely low.
