2 servers on the same ip?

I was trying to do the octovine event with my guild in Auric Basin yesterday and they said they were on ip x.×.×.165 so I typed in /ip and it told me I was on ip x.×.×.165 but I couldn’t see them anywhere so it turned out they were on some sort of separate shard from me. The complete ip matched, *the full set of numbers*, so it wasn’t just a coincidence that our maps ended in the same numbers.

So I thought that was weird.

Well today, we were organizing for Tangled Depths. Same thing happened. Some of our guild ended up on some seperate shard of the map with the exact same ip.

Now here is where things get crazy.

One of our leaders suggested that people get off of the other shard onto any other ip they could. The theory here being that our map shard was sharing a map cap with the other shard. People started getting into our shard like crazy. So it definitely seems like the cap is being shared among all of these shards. Are there even supposed to be more than one map instance on an ip? I’ve never seen this before.

If this is a bug it would actually make a lot of sense because some maps are quite empty but not being closed so perhaps some other shard is keeping that instance open as well since it seems they would be sharing a cap.

Interesting (and not in a good way). It could be an issue with the /ip command or it could be as you suggest: multiple shards using the same IP.

If you notice it happening again, please also use the in-game /bug command (folks from both ‘shards’), since that will provide ANet with additional data that might be helpful in understanding what’s going on.
