64bit Client weird after upgrading windows
personally i would do a repair.
make a new shortcut, right click → properties
Filepath
At the end of the file path add: -repair
Rename the shortcut ‘GW2 repair’ just so you dont accidentally click on the repair one ALL the time… like i used to do -.-
trying a fresh install will post back
Just tried a fresh install the problem presists, basically when you try and load into the map the game just freezes at the loading screen until you hit ctrl alt delete then it will load into map. dont know why this is happening. was fine playing on all previous patches. probably has to do with windows upgrade
ALSO its not just 64 bit for me 32bit client is having same issue.
Few things I would try:
1. Try waiting and see if it loads eventually
2. Try changing screen mode between fullscreen, windowed and borderless. The behavior differs for various programs based on the hardware/software configuration. For some games it impacts fps, for others the way loading is handled.
3. Try setting gw2 to different OS compatibility mode. You might want to say what your current OS is as well. Are you running Windows 10? What edition? What OS did you upgrade from?
The more details you provide, the easier it is to determine the cause.
1. tried doing that still stays frozen
2. also tried that as well.
3. well i didnt really upgrade to windows 10 as i was already on win 10 i just installed an upgrade or whatever like some kind of service pack.
im trying to provide more details. is there anything else i can provide.
If you have a laptop with an Nvidia card, the problem is a bug with Guild wars 2 and Vsync/Compatibility with Windows 10. Running the game in compatibility mode for Windows 7 can fix this problem, as can running the game with vsync off. Then you get screen tearing etc. requiring you to run it in borderless window mode. In this case, it can impact performance.
Im surprised you havent found the buggy artifacted textures if you are having this problem of having to use task manager to get into the game. This is another issue with the same bug. Once going back into the game from task manager upon loading a new map etc (every time a new map is loaded you will have to do the same thing) artifacted textures will appear. Anet need to send a fix out for this asap. They havent even acknowledged the problem. It is specific to Guild Wars 2.
@Nilsatis , that worked as a temporary soloution but you are correct anet need to fix this asap.
UPDATE arenanet doesnt wanna deal with this, because it was the microsoft bug that screwed it up in the first place
Then Anet need to think about the fact that every other game works fine since the “Windows bug”. They really cant blame this completely on Microsoft. After all, many people would be having problems with other games and the issue would be all over the web. Do you have a mobile Nvidia gpu as suggested above, or are you running something else?
