All members kicked, Dungeon reset??
It’s rare that all five members of a dungeon will all disconnect at the same time. But yes, if every member of a dungeon leaves the instance (either on purpose or because of a disconnect), the instance is closed, and you’ll have to start over.

With instances no longer being tied to specific accounts, if everyone in a party leaves the dungeon, the instance will be lost. If your whole party disconnected at the same time, perhaps it was a server issue? I can’t imagine everyone in a party disconnecting at the same time due to individual issues.
If at least one member is still in the instance, it will not reset. If everyone leaves, then it resets.
I’m not sure how the game would be able to tell if everyone DC’d versus everyone bailed on the dungeon. Since dungeons have multiple paths and many groups run them all, it would be inconvenient if everyone had to wait some time after running a path to start the next one. (I can think of some ways around it, but they would all involve semi-complex algorithms that would have to be thoroughly discussed, tested, played-to-fail, and debugged.)
We were all on Skype, we are a group of friends. One member started lagging, then another, then they were kicked, then the rest of us were all kicked (“you were disconnected from the server”). When we logged back in we were outside and it had reset. We are all on different connections (one in Sweden, 4 in different parts of the UK). Very frustrating as we had tried to work it out and not use the guides and it had taken ages, and we got no reward due to it.

Like other games do, it just saves your partys progress for 20 minutes, and if you all drop you zone back in where you were. Its quite easy, it knows which WP’s we had unlocked last, so save it to the server at that point, and delete the save either when the party complete and manually leave via the leave button, or after 20 minutes of no interaction. Stops the frustration caused by the overloaded servers.
Yup, one of the many ways ANet has dropped the ball on things. There really should be at least a 5 minute grace period before the zones shut down, but alas, that’d be something beneficial to dungeons and they can’t have that!
Had the same thing happen a couple times recently in fractals
I’ve had this happen. Somethig going on at Anet’s server side kicked us all out at the same time. Pretty annoying when it happens.
had this happen in Fractals: 3rd Fractal (Dredge) and suddenly nothing happens anymore. Other people running against the walls, “I’m lagging” was heard from the other 2 guild-members on ts. Strangely neither was the Ts lagging, nor did anyone even have to wait to reconnect to the servers. As if the connection never was truly gone. When we reconnected all 3 of us and our 2 randoms stood in Lions Arch. All disconnected. I seriously doubt that the problem was on our side. Since we had a good run we just restarted fractals with that group and finished smoothly.
In other games if the server resets you get to go back in where you were up to before.
Really? In everything I’ve played, if everyone goes offline you lose the instance, just like how it is in GW2.

I’ve had games on either side, surely liked it when they did hold instances for you if you crashed, however it wasn’t perfect.
Imagine you’re practicing a dungeon, or bug it and need to restart, or just chaining SE1, whatever reason that you’re starting the same dungeon up right after you get out.
Well, then you’d keep re-entering the same dungeon.
So while I don’t think anyone would argue that it would be a bad idea to allow us to jump back in after crashing. But, other issues could arise from making that happen.
Well, they could just add another option when entering.
