Hello, I’ve been getting this bug ..but I don’t think it has to deal with Audio at all.

Scenario:

I’ll be in WvW with max graphical settings (low audio) and once I get into a large fight of more than 30+ people this ‘sound bug’ happens. Soon after my game becomes unresponsive due to a crash. I’ll log back in and it’ll be fine, but then the sound happens again, so I note some frame rate loss. I try again, but still get the bug. Though, this time, before I crash, I lowered my Graphics to the lowest setting and did not crash. The sound was still there, but there was no crashes and I could play the game.

When I heard that others had this bug I tried some tests. I’d lower graphics and increase audio quality, no bug. I’’d max both, bug. I’d lower audio and max graphics, bug. So, I think it has to due to an overload or heavy battering on our processors. I’m not so sure with technical stuff, but it;s obvious after these tests that it has something to do with Graphics more so than Audio.

i didnt get this untill the dec 9th, i got it in the middle of a boss fight in a dungeon and i died allot for the rest of the fight cause of the annoying whooooohw whooooohw sound that came up out of no where and annoyed the hell out of me, happened again tonight in wvw, had to close the game both times

Encountered this for the first time a couple of days ago where I spent hours in WvW. Then during a low man battle at one of the forts in Eternal Battleground I started hearing the whuuuuuurrr sound and thought my machine was about to explode >.<
Every setting was at max and it’s the first and only time I’ve ever heard it. Restart fixed it.

Not been getting this bug for long, thank god it is a game bug and not what i thought it was. So like most people i was having a great time with friends in wvw and the next minute i have this sound, as demonstrated by you tube videos. I thought my Bose system had broke or something, until the same thing occurred during team speak and whilst in wvw the other night.

I have been getting this problem now for approx 2 weeks. Hope they can resolve the issue as game play is not the same with no sound.

I’ve recently had this issue again. Initially it always popped up during the Jormag fight.

Fiddling with the sound to default and speed to faster and stuff doesn’t really seem to help.

However, I do recall that the first time I deleted my Local.dat file (the file that stores game settings). So is it possible that your Local.dat becomes corrupted/unreadable over time?

You see, I had no issues at all for about a month of steady gameplay. Then the ‘woo-woo’ started happening. Deleted Local.dat and had no issues anymore until another month of steady gameplay.

So it may be that the issue is caused by the Local.dat file becoming corrupt or something…

To those that are having issues, I’d suggest deleting their Local.dat and see if it helps (be sure to make notes/sceenies of your game/graphic settings though, so it’s easy to set your personal preferences again)

My guild and I got hit with this a couple of days ago in the CoE dungeon explorable mode.

it kindof cascaded through us. It started with me, then another, and another and so on until all 5 of us were hearing it.

Got it last night again while in EB WvW. Had to live with no sound and the constant wail in my left ear for another hour as we fought in SM. When I restarted GW2, I then had to wait in queue to get back into EB.

So annoying.

Recently experiencing this bug on dragon fights, notably Tequatl. Before I got it a lot in the Mad King’s realm when fighting the boss mobs with large groups.

Just checked my Local.dat file and found out that it was over 30mb in size. The one before it was nearly 40mb.

So I renamed it in order to get a fresh one from the client, tweaked my Audio/Video settings ingame again and checked the new Local.dat. Now it initially was only 72kb but jumped to 1.7mb while I was looking at it.

See attached screenshot for more details.

At any rate, it does seem very interesting that a file that should (afaik) only save a few user-presets gets bigger and bigger over time. As such it may be that this dat-file bloating could be the cause of the ‘siren’ issues as soon as it grows beyond 30mb.

So anyone having these siren sounds, check the filesize of your Local.dat file. If it’s bigger than 30mb see if renaming/deleting it will fix your issues.

Ive gotten this bug twice with tequatl, and in the last week about 7-8 times with jormag. Each time it has crashed my game either immediately or within 1 minute

Yeah, it might be something else entirely. However, audio settings/preferences are stored in that file. So I figured if it gets bloated to the point of becoming corrupted it might start to get caught into a loop and cause issues.

So I merely posted it here as these suggestions of setting audio back to default or setting it from best quality to speed didn’t appear to work for me; whereas renaming my Local.dat file back in november seemed to fix all my issues for over a month (up until my new Local.dat file got to 30mb)

EDIT: Seems the Local.dat may not be the cause as I got the siren bug a day after renaming my old Local.dat (which had already grown to 12mb in one day)

It just happen to me for the first time within 1300 hours of gameplay. It randomly started during a boss fight in fractal. I had to turn off my sound if I wanted to keep playing, especially because I had an headache at the sametime, and this sound doesn’t do any good with an headache…

I first experienced this 1 day ago, in WvW. And no slider setting changed the amplitude of the endless sine? wave sound. Not a harsh sound, but endless, unstoppable, unmutable is.

i got this bug for 4 or 5 days now and it happens 2 to 3 times and mostly when a lot of players are at one spot and also in dungeons. It is annoying, especially when in wvsw in the middle of a fight in eb and then u have to log out as it is unbearable, and have to queue again. Please fix this Anet, it’s hurting my ears.

Overall I think this game’s sound mechanics can use improvement. Far too many times do my skills’ sounds not play properly when I attack. This gets even worse for melee classes ‘cause they essentially don’t “feel” as if they’re hitting anything. It probably has to do with how they’re mixing and overlaying the sounds effects…

I just got the sound bug again during Claw of Jormag, this time however it cost me the chest because when I got the bug, I also got the error that sometimes comes with it and my game crashed, after relogging I ofcourse lost my Pact Bazooka and couldn’t switch to a ranged weapon anymore (D/D Ele) and decided it would be best to help with the spawns instead of trying to get close to him and deal damage. Now I didn’t get the freaking chest. I damaged him before the crash but apparently that doesn’t count… Also after I logged back in I got the sound bug again within 3 seconds or so, this time however without the error&crash.

Also a victim of this game breaking bug, It has happend 3-4 times a day and usually happens with lots of players around, WvW and almost always during a dragon. After it starts I have maybe 30 seconds of play before the game crashes, and then it is a race to get in before the chest is gone. I have missed several dragon chests because of this bug. It is ruining the game.

I just got this sound bug yesterday for the first time after hundreds of hours of playing. My guild, GSCH, was doing a community event running around Fireheart Rise and it happened towards the end of the event. I wasn’t the only one – a bunch of other people on the guild were hearing it, as well, as reported in RaidCall.

Okay, I have a few months old, gaming-class PC and have been using it since the release with the first sound slider set to lowest (left side).

We are talking hundreds of hours of uptime.

Today I turned the first slider to highest quality (right edge), few minutes passed and boom, the sonar sound forcing me to restart the client. This has happened for the first time in hundreds of hours and in a very short time window after increasing the sound setting.

Coincidence?

Ive gotten this bug twice with tequatl, and in the last week about 7-8 times with jormag.

Same here, it seems that big, world events where there’s a lot of stuff going on in the vicinity, it’s nearly like the audio system gets an OD and bails out. Game keeps working fine afterwards for me, I just have to mute GW2 in my volume mixer (if I’m in an event where a client restart is out of the question because you don’t want to miss out or crash a party – re: “Fractals Disconnect Issue resetting group”, I’m looking at you, kiddo!!).

Hopefully just something to do with collision/memory leak/fault when number of simultaneous sounds exceed some limit, perhaps?

I’m getting the Sound Bug, i’m on Desolation Server, the sound bug occurs when i’m in W v W, I’ve read that there should of been a fix and something was happening to try and put it right. This is rather annoying, sound like a alarm going of and all other sound disappears from game. is there still people having the same problem or does anybody know of a cure?

I have only been suffering from this sound bug very recently (alarm/siren noise, nothing else), within the last few days, before that had no problems what so ever.

Mostly occurs whilst I am in WvW, although it has also occurred during dragon events and dungeons.

Any news on when this will get fixed as its rather annoying to have to log out to fix this, especially if your in the middle of a WvW match.

This happened to me the first time yesterday, thought it was just me!

I was at Jormag, which fits the profile. I just muted my sound system and tried to finish the event, but eventually I ended up crashing. When I came back in, the problem was gone.

seems like there has been a very large spike in this occuring in December with people that have never had this issue previously, only thing i can think of is one of the patches in early dec somehow made it worse?

I just got this sound bug today right after I got in a fractal daily run, and wow thanks for making it so we can’t exit the game or get dcd from fractals and back in right? Seriously drove me up the wall and wanting to kill someone because of it. Had to deal with this crap for over an hr, ugh. 1st time getting it too with like 1300 hrs played, closing the game after the fractal was done miraculously fixed it, what do you know eh?

Ever since sliding the sound quality bar down 1 level below max about a month ago, I have never experienced this sound issue again. That is until this morning when I turned the sound quality back up to max for a Jormag fight, and behold, there it is.

At least for my case, setting sound at max quality appears to be the culprit. Hopefully this will help narrow things down a bit.

I have been playing with the slider one notch or TWO notches down from high for a month or more and it’s still happening. I just experienced it again upon coming out of a portal bomb right next to north supply camp in BL map with a large group, killing siege. I didn’t get a chance to land a hit. This time it beeped for a bit and then speed up about about 10 times faster and then it froze the game entirely. CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart.

This NEEDS FIXING.

Has happened to me 3 times in the past 2 weeks.

First time it happened I was in the underwater Fractal. I am not sure what made it happen. I know I was not in combat at that moment.

Second time it happened I was in CoE explorable. Had just finished combat and I clicked on a repair canister. Immediately the siren bug happened.

Third time it happened I was in Fractals in the lobby preparing to move out to do the dungeon. I was using a consumable(not sure which). Immediately the siren bug happened.

I have encountered this bug for the 1st time, exactly same sound as the OP’s youtube link, and just like in the video during a battle in WvWvW.

I’m using GW2 osx beta client.

By far the worst bug in game . Not only does it happen randomly. it is extremely harsh on the ears. It started for myself and about 5 of my friends the major patch before wintersday. And it pretty much a daily occurrence. This needs to be fixed asap.

This sound bug has been ongoing since September and it hasn’t been resolved yet?! It’s annoying and it’s obviously quite real… though I suspect it’s more likely a DirectX implementation bug resulting, the sound driver may be running out of polyphony (or memory) and somone forgot to put a limit on the size of the array for number of sounds. Whatever it is, it has been THREE months. Get on it, sound department!

Still suffering from this bug also. It popped up first for me in BWE2 in a big WvWvW battle. It doesn’t happen enough to be completely gamebreaking but it does still pop up on occasion. I’ve never noticed it pop up onder normal play (i.e. PvE explorable areas and cities) but it does tend to happen in dungeons or large battles in WvW. Think it has something to do with performance once things get hectic wich end up bugging the sound card but ofcourse can’t say for sure.

I’m having this alarm/siren noise too. It sounds like wurrr wurrr wurrr out of my left headphone speaker. Didn’t start happening to me until the Wintersday update. Seems to occasionally happen in large fights.

This month I have encountered this bug a couple of times, every time either in WvWvW or in Fractals. Seems to be connected to something recent, because before December I have never had any problems of that kind. Around that time nothing changed on my end that I would know of, except regular Windows updates and a graphics driver update.

I’ve encountered this bug within the past month a few times, but like people have said, only in events with mass amounts of people. For me, that means fighting any of the dragons that spawn. I’ve thankfully been able to log out/get booted and log back in time to grab the chest, but it’s still kind of annoying.
I get the weird siren sound, usually close to the death time of the dragon, and then my game freezes/crashes.

Hi,

I’m a huge fan of GW2 but we all know there is a lot of issues in this game. Still, I can deal with balance issues, with some stuff not working properly all the time, or even parts of the game you can’t play for a while because of bugs.

What I’m having a hard time dealing with is that horrible siren. There’s no way anyone can play in those conditions and even if you decide to get rid of your headset for a while, the game will crash to get you even more angry.

I have had this bug 4 times in a 2 hour span tonight and I have spent 1h30 of those 2 hours waiting to get back to WvW because I was on a waiting list each time. And of course, the game considered I had ALT+F4 so I had to repair my armor for no reason. I’m sorry but this is unacceptable. This bug has been going on for months and it’s not a slight inconvenience.

I want to continue playing this game, I love it and I understand this is a new experience for you ANet and that we’re at the beginning of the journey. Still, you simply cannot let bugs like this go on for so long. This is just ruining the game.

I won’t beg but I certainly won’t spend another evening getting angry for a game supposed to relax me because of this so annoying alarm sound. I don’t like ultimatums and I’m just one only player amongst millions. But I have to tell you that if I can’t play any part of the game because of that, I’ll play something else instead.

So please make it a priority (except for exploits, there’s no way anything can be more important than allowing us to play in good, well not even good, decent conditions) and let us enjoy the game instead of making us go crazy.

Thank you for your understanding and for the work you may (need to) put into this.

I’ve had this bug off an on sense I started playing at the Lost Shores event, its really obnoxious, an I often crash 5-30min after it starts ; ;. Please fix this, I think its been 2 months sense the last dev reply. (Hope you had a happy wintersday by the time you get back to working on this atleast~ .(_ _ ).)

This has been happening to me for quite some time now; however, I have now started crashing as soon as the audio bug kicks in. I’ve been sending in my crash report each and every single time so hopefully the developers will be able to pin-point its cause without much longer…

I get this quite a bit doing the Claw of Jormag event. When the Claw “roars” I will sometimes not hear the sound. Occasionally I will get the sound delayed a few seconds after the animation begins.
