Dear ArenaNet,

Today i saved up enough laurels to buy my 3rd piece of ascended. It was going to be my 2nd ring for 25 laurels and 250 WvW badges. I bought the ring and it wont let me equip both of the rings. Note both my rings are the same with the same stats. I can’t tell if i’ve done something stupid or this is a bug so i thought to highlight it since there was no warning about not being able to equip two of the same pieces of ascended gear. So if this is a bug please could it be sorted and if it wasn’t a bug i feel like there wasn’t enough warning prior to me clicking accept to buying the ring so i would like to be refunded my laurels and badges.

Ascended rings can only have one of a specific ring equipped on a single character at a time. This is defined by the inclusion of the “Unique” attribute on the rings. For each stat combination there is one ring that has an Offensive Infusion slot, the other has a Defensive Infusion slot. You can equip one of each of these rings since they are not identical, but not two of the same exact ring (accessories also).

If you file a Support Ticket (hitting Ask A Question at the top middle there) you can explain the situation to them and they may supply a refund due to the confusion. This is a very common issue and they have provided refunds to others in the past who have asked for it.

You can infuse one of them and can wear both since now one is named “Ring of Red Death (Infused)” and the original is named “Ring of Red Death”. Though since you paid the laurels for these, I’m guessing that you don’t do fractals at all and won’t have the fractal mats to infuse it.

Yeah, i don’t do fractals much. Only a level 8 personal reward. I’ve sent them a support ticket. see what happens.
