Asura Guardians are currently experiencing this serious issue:
Here’s a pic showing it being used by both Asura and Norn (both skills were untraited to provide accuracy) I would like a dev to please respond to this asap so we can all get an idea what is being done.
NOTE: I encourage everyone here to test other Asura class combos to see if they are experiencing the same issue.
I can confirm that this issue chafes my buns (or rather the tiny buns of my Asuran guardian).
Yes. Please fix this ASAP
Could a dev please give us some feedback on this issue please? A lot of people are affected by this and are on the fence about playing Asura’s in general due to this bug.
I play warrior but this makes me super nervous. Is my Hundred Blades hitting a smaller area too, or my various spin attacks?
I’m level 60. Don’t make me re-roll A-Net.
Ouch thats a pretty nasty one. Basicly it can affect all radius skills. On the other hand, a Norn might also be easier to hit then with a bigger radius size?
@Shintai – I’m in the process of testing Asura Warrior skills since that’s what I play. Keep us updated if you find anything. As far as Norns are concerned all hitboxes for races were supposedly normalized. Hitbox is what affects how easy you are to hit not the size our skills are.
Note: Still waiting on a Dev response
Please fix this!
Can we please get an official response on whether or not this will be addressed? Or if you even acknowledge it exists?
Asura Skill sizes in general (Guardian/Warrior) are becoming a topic of debate. Having such a severe disadvantage when picking Asura is a big turn off for the player base.
I just tested this compared to a human Guardian, and the bug still occurred, but the difference was much smaller. It seems to be a problem relating to the size of the Guardian’s character model.
EDIT: I was also able to get this to happen with the Protector’s Strike mace skill. I didn’t have another player to compare it to, so I used the circle under a waypoint for a point of reference. This is on the second (asura version) and third (charr version) attached screenshots.

After doing some testing I can confirm that Asura have to get closer to their targets from center mass to hit with AOEs such as whirlwind that is melee centric. I have also noticed enemies having to get closer to an asura in order to damage them in melee (going from center mass here). So I would have to say that hit boxes are not normalized in regards to melee, else I would not be seeing this. I could be mistaken in that the asura are not the most stable of melee fighters and jump around alot however in basic auto attacks, though in regard to norn guardian vs asura guardian whirlwind skills…the norn is definately hitting a larger area in my tests.
The shield has a side that asura can capitalize on. The giant shield that a norn generates is easy for an enemy to move inside of (and thus ignore the effects of) compared to an asura’s. So while the norn can protect more people against a large attack, the asura can use it more tactically in skirmishes. There are pro’s and cons to the shield beign different.
Bump, cause this is actually really important. We need to know this is acknowledged and fix is upcoming.
Can we get an Arenanet response on this subject? Is this working as intended? Are player hitboxes normalized across races? Or, do Asura benefit from a smaller hitbox and therefore are justified in having a smaller PBAoE radius?
Thanks in advance!

This was a graphical bug with the Shield of Absorption skill which has already been fixed. The effect area of this skill was the same between races even though the graphic made it seem like it was a smaller. The hitboxes and skill effects are normalized between all the races.
In the video you see the targets being knocked back further on the second use of the Shield of Absorption skill because it knocks back targets a set distance and chooses the 5 closest targets to the player. The first Shield of Absorption pushed back the 5 closest targets and then the second Shield of Absorption pushed back the rest of the targets within range. It appears that the skill has a bigger effect on the larger character because the targets were further away from the players than the first use of the skill on the Asura.
Thank you so much for the response Roy. You certainly earned your title of rapid response team!
