Since you cant multie map Auric Basin, I been having the issue with looting the mapping. So the other day i complete auric basin and looted the map, then 2 hours i went to re do auric basin with a friend. We failed to complete the meta on the 2nd run. I was not able to loot any of the chest apart from the very smallest ones, my friend who hadnt done ab since reset was allowed to loot every single chest. I would love to know which one is the bug. Should u be allowed to loot the map even if u dont do the meta or should you not be allowed to?

Nope, once you success of the meta.

So far as I understand it, you should get access to the “pity” chests, which are the small ones. Failing the meta isn’t great for loot, but you don’t get zero for your time investment.

I assume that you have to actually hit an octovine or something for that to count, but I never bothered to check.

No there is a bug possibly related to loading from a failed instance to a successful instance that will cause all great/grand chests to appear as already opened. This may or may not be permanent until reset.

Alternatively failing it once might cause all of them to be stuck in that state for the rest of the day.

As I’ve said, I haven’t done enough AB to work out the details.

Wait, are you saying that the bug is reproduced by this sequence of events:

1. Go to AB
2. Participate in the meta, including octovine
3. octovine fails
4. Join on a map where the meta succeeded
5. great and grand chests show as open

…because that is what I understand, and if so, it sounds like working as intended, not a bug. eg: you can unlock all chests once per successful meta that you participate in.

Except that is not true. You can load into AB from anywhere besides a failed octovine and still be able to loot everything. I’ve only ran into it once or twice so far since I don’t spend much time in AB and I didn’t care enough to write down any of the details involved.

Participation has never been required. If participation is supposed to be required then it should be all or nothing not partial.

so there is 2 thing that can happen depending on the person.

person a

has not done ab since daily reset
they fail an ab map
switch to a new one and all the chest are there and they can open it

person b
has done ab since daily reset
they fail an ab map
switchs to a new map and they cant loot all the chest

what i want is anet to tell us which ones of these is how its supposed to be.
becuase basically right now you can load in to ab once a day never do the meta and get all the chests.

I don’t see any inconsistency between A’s experience and B’s. If there’s an issue, it’s in the final statement:

If that’s true, that sounds unintended.

On the other hand, it’s only 1x/day, so there’s no way to ‘exploit’ the inconsistency beyond saving 10-15min/day.

Is it worth reporting? Sure. I’m just not worried if ANet doesn’t give an official response anytime soon and fixes it quietly sometime in the far future.
