Avast kills GW2.exe
I was just about to post this as well. Turned on my computer and gw2.exe was missing. Downloaded the gw2setup.exe, ran it, and avast was telling me that gw2.tmp was malware. I selected the option to run it anyways.
Edit: Just adding that I am running 64bit windows 7. I wont bother with my hard ware since I dont think that would matter in this case.

ok.. I didn’t get an option to run it anyways, but if you experienced the same thing, that tells me everything is fine on my pc, it’s just the stupid avast… thx for replying.
2 players in my guild are reporting the same thing. They could not launch GW2, they both have Avast and avast prompted them with something about gw2.exe being blocked. I can confirm this issue. Please fix.
I would suggest running a virus scan and malwarebytes just incase there is something affecting gw2. Which is what I am doing right now, so far nothing.
I use Avast, and just now tried running the game. No problems whatsoever. Perhaps, it is some setting in Avast that is causing this anomaly. /shrug
Good luck.
already done this ^^ nothing found except the adware included in avira-setup.exe which I choose to not install… xD

To those of you experiencing this, after taking your client from Quarantine and playing the game, have you been experiencing moment of game lag?
no lags at all… but I had to reinstall the whole game =( gw2 had to be updated altough I played yesterday and had it up-to-date. But this may be caused by the setup of gw2 which deleted the gw2.dat… but now everything is fine and the game runs smooth. And no complains from Avira this far. Avast will have to take care of that. As long as they don’t do, I’ll run Avira instead.
GW2 does a bunch of things that an aggressive anti-malware program will act on. The software’s settings should allow you to make exceptions for particular programs, which is probably the better option than tuning down the rules. It’s been too long since I used Avast, so I can’t point you to the specific panel.
Good luck.
For those who don’t know where to look for the exceptions settings:
Open Avast userinterface, click on “Settings” and then on “Antivirus”. In the 4th window you can set exceptions to avoid gw2.exe from being detected as potential thread. I put my whole SSD-Drive E:\ to this list, because this SSD is only for games, Window7 is on a separate SSD. If you just want to exclude GW2 from being scanned, just add your GW2 folder to this list.
Just reactivated Avast! and deactivated Antivir again. Seems to work fine again. =) Thx for your help everyone.
