I was in a hurry to finish today’s daily, so instead of finishing I ran to the weaponsmith in wvw and bought 4 axes to salvage. I got 3 ori ore from 4 axes, I am not sure if this is really a bug or not, but ori ore costs about 3 s 34 copper right now and the axe costs 2 silver and 64 copper. So it seemed really strange. Maybe I got really lucky but the axe is white and I don’t normally get 3/4 salvage rate of ori from blues and green lvl 80’s so…

The white armor/weapon bought from weaponsmith/armorsmith vendors shouldn’t be salvagable.

…. but I just bought an Axe from a weaponsmith in Brisban Wildlands and it also salvaged into Ori.
Bought a Dagger, it salvaged into Mithril.
Bought another Axe and it ALSO salvaged into Ori.
A third axe using Basic kit gave and elder log
A fourth axe using Fine kit gave another ori. The previous ones that gave ori was also with a Fine kit.
A second dagger using Fine kit also gave an ori.

This looks like an exploit. Could you change the title to make that a bit more obvious to the devs?

It looks like the issue is vendor white salvaged with Fine kit(or better?).

I am not sure if you’re saying that the white gear purhcased for coin shouldn’t be salvagable. But thats not really the problem I have, the problem I have is that it looks like an exploit. Gear you purchase for coin should be able to be salvaged and flipped back into a little bit of coin when you’re done.

I am just pointing out that is how they used to be. I have no problem with them being salvageable. It seems like that was changed without any mention anywhere.

By the way, what sort of salvage kit did you use? Just wondering if it is simply a Fine kit + item issue or if it was the ‘higher chance of rarer’ item from the Fine kit that is allowing it to happen.

Basically I am just interested in knowing if those % for the kits actually matter.

Oh , it was a crude salvage kit on all four axes.

I tired it a few times and the salvages are exactly normal to what you’d expect for lv 80 gear. You can’t make a profit on it as it costs anywhere from 1/3 less to 1/3 more (2.64s to 4s per white bought vs 3.81s ori atm in TP) than ori per item and you can get one of 5 outcomes (t5 wood, t6 wood, t5 metal , t 6 metal, and combination 2 of either one of those four). Its not an exploit as you lose money salvaging bought gear over finding it from mobs.

I actually spent more than I’d make salvaging these. Mithril and elder wood are worthless.

The weaponsmith weapon vendors are everywhere. But lv 80 vendor gear only exists in wvw and Lionsarch and other no level cap cities.

It sounds like you just got lucky, getting ori ore several times in a row (that’s happened to me salvaging whites I found from foes). Since you can buy L80 whites on the TP for low prices, I’d say it’s not an exploitable issue unless the drop rate of ori is dramatically different for vendor-bought whites vs looted whites.

So GL to everyone who tries to “exploit” this to make gold… you will bankrupt in no time

Yeah I’ll want to see how much they cry after this on here for trying something that is a waste of money. Just doing it 20 times is enough to cause a loss with my testing.
