[BUG]Characters are Stuttering [Merged]
you know what would be great?
if we could get some kind of response from 1 of the ANET guys here saying “hey, we haven’t fixed it yet, but we have at least replicated it so we know it is real and you’re not all nuts and we are working on it.”
That would be very nice, College is closed today due to weather guess I’m not gonna play Gw2 because of this haha
Same issue here since the 2/23 patch. Game is unplayable. What a pity too it’s payday and I refuse to buy gems since I can’t do anything in game.
Well I told a Anet guy in the Pvp game I was in and in the Lobby so maybe fingers crossed something will be done. I told him as he was bashing me to a pulp as I was mad stuttering ;P
thanks for taking 1 for the team
Wonder if this helps try it out. Options → Graphics → Resolution → Window or Windowed Fullscreen It seems to clear up most of the stuttering I can still see it a bit, but until they fix this, (hopefully they do) this better than nothing. Hope it helped!
Same here, human male, HotM

I got the same issue fullscreen /windowed fullscreen :x
It would be helpful if someone from Anet Dev would post a question asking for specifics to narrow down the issue and/or a comment whether they’ve been able to reproduce the trouble.
I’m experiencing this problem aswell and is making PvP unplayable. Fix it please. I’m glad I’m not crazy and it’s not my computer. Started happening after the patch.
HEY ANET!
been 2 full days and so many hours. 64 comments on this thread, 1095 views, and 0 attention from ANET saying anything…
For the love of GOD! the least you could do is say “hey! we know its an issue, we have seen it for ourselves, we are working on it”
otherwise it just looks like you are ignoring us.
As someone who has worked in many levels of tech support 1 of the 1st things you learn not to do it ignore your customers when they are saying they have an issue. Even if you dont have a solution yet you at least acknowledge them.
WTF? its not like you dont have people watching the kitten ed boards…
When moving forward the game will pulse the envoirnment forward(best way I can describe it. It feels like my character is moving normally but the keeps trying to catch up like it’s pulsing. It’s been going on for about 2 weeks.
I know exactly what you are talking about and multiple threads are already open. It seems to have started or gotten worse for most players on the 2.23.16 patch. You can find the most active thread here
everything was fine yesterday, noticed the stuttering movement of my character (female charr) and thought I had a technical issue, after checking with my guild found out that this issue is up here on the forums and not being addressed yet. No bueno.
Same issue here since the 2/23 update!
I get it during gliding. If I hold down for my name plate, it stutters all over the place
Same problem here.
Gliding, running, walking, whatever… everyday is stuttering.
Quite annoying, fps are fine, ping is fine too.
Fix please.

It’s been 3 days since the last patch and nothing was done towards the resolution of this issue. I’m getting quite upset with the way things are being handled – no official response/action or whatsoever.
Has anyone tried re-installing the game yet?
downloaded it over night, about to see if it fiixed it… Ill let you allknow in a few mins…
Reinstalling did NOT work which leads me to a new level of anger…
ANET! WAKE THE kitten UP!!!
in the 3 days since the update ANET employees have responded to :
“Dragon’s Stand Mordremoth Fight Crash” which was started 15 hours ago and has 3 replies
“Silverwastes final boss chest” started 2 days ago 6 replies
“LFG Description Bugged” started 2 days ago and the 1ST REPLY was from someone at ANET
“Can’t see squad/object markers” started 22 hours ago and 21 hours ago had a reply from, guess who? someone from ANET! Infact! that is the only reply on the thread.
“Stuck in PVP match” Started 3 days ago, right after patch and had an ANET response in a day. Cant tell if that one has been resolved yet, but no one has posted on it in 24 hours.
and
“Character Position is not saved [Merged]” which had a response less than a day after it was started right after the patch.
All of those have gotten response, many seem to have been fixed and with the exception of the “Stuck in PVP match” NONE of them make the game completely UNPLAYABLE, which our issue does.
And where is the ANET response to this? Do they think “stuttering” in the title of the thread was someone just being funny and talking about the character’s voice in a cutscene? How many replies do we need to get a response?
If I or any of the support team guys I worked with at Moto or ATT ignored customer issues like this for a day, nevermind 3 days, we would have been clearing out our desks by the end of the week. Hell, you cant work a retail job and get away with just blatantly ignoring a customer in your store that is trying to ask you a question.
This tread is about 2 days past deserving a response and we have gotten dead silsnce. Time to apply increased pressure…
I have now sent PM to
Branden Gee
Ray Patrick
Cameron Rich
Gaile Gray
Jon Olson Mark
Ester Sauter
the PM reads exactly this
Title: This deserves a response
body: Today
[BUG]Characters are Stuttering
So now everyone on this tread knows that those 6 ANET people have been personally made aware of the situation, and that I was nice, if blunt in my informing them.
Lets see if we get anywhere now…

And PMing about a bug is entirely inappropriate. Please do not spam members of the ArenaNet Team to ask for attention to an issue brought up in a forum thread. We have several people in the forums daily, and this thread has been noted and is being investigated. When we have more to share, we will do so.
Again, please do not use the PM system to call attention to your thread. That is an abuse of the PM system, as most likely none of the people you’re distracting with such messages are going to be able to address it directly, and the people who are involved will be made aware through the forums themselves.

I apologize that forum members and those who are impacted by this bug did not receive an update earlier. I can appreciate that a situation like this is a cause for concern!
You can rest assured that this bug is on the Bugs List that is routed on a regular basis to the dev team. Particularly because of the nature of this situation, I feel sure it’s safe to say it will be given a very focused look and will be addressed as soon as possible.

Gaile,
Is there anything or anywhere I can post to help with what I am experiencing?
I’m fairly technically and have been doing my own troubleshooting. I even rolled back my system to before the the patch (but the game is the same) and it’s still happening.
The thing I’ve noticed running the resource monitor is the game client 100% stops responding. It’s either a short or long pause. The CPU cycles assigned just stop for the game. The weird thing is the player location doesn’t change until you come back. So it’s like the server tells the client to stop moving or what not…

Thank you very much Gaile!
Similar issue. After 23.02.2016 patching game there is a big slowdown of some kind, that is generally random (stuttering) and loosely connected to FPS.
I have done some tests since then:
– Processor at all scenarios (low to high) constant 20-30 proc. utilization, equal on all cores so it is not likey to be processor
– Graphic card is iddling, and when switching between higest to lowest settings, the stuttering-slowmo effect is barely affected (I would say 10-20%).
– Nothing wrong with my connection as well. Good ping, barly utilized.
- Other players – now here gets interesting, presence of other players nearby does not seem to have effect on slowmo-stuttaring higher that one that would come from corresponding graphic parameters increase. There is however one thing that have big impact on this: Time of the day / day of the week.
During times that servers are quite populated (distinguishable from internet peakhours and its network impact) game is unplayable.
During off hours, when game is basically empty – it is still noticable, but not to the level it would impact gameplay.
With everything going around it looks to me like this is something related to processing of network data on server, client or both. Security “feature” of some sort? Server performance?
Just to make it clear, MMO game that is not playable when there are other people playing it is not playable in general… Please fix it.
Ps. Not trying to be pushy, but many people will decide to wait it up, and the longer they wait the more difficult it will become bringing them back.

Ooook. While I also do think this bug should have gotten an aknowledgment sooner, going after a dev, especially Gaile who is the mediator between us and the Devs, is never a good idea. Bad things will happen, don’t say I didn’t warn you lol. Since we have a response, I figure it would be useful for people to post DxDiag’s so the Devs can start linking 2 and 2 together.
For those that don’t know how, open the Start, type in dxdiag, click on the program and the click to button to save everything to a file on your computer, and simply attach in this thread. I do believe it includes your IP, so if you aren’t comfortable with that being posted here, just simply cover that bit up/omit.
The DxDiag will help narrow down any correlations between all of us, such as regional problems, hardware, software, etc. They already have mine via a support ticket the other day, but will post it when I’m not on my phone.

I’ll add my name to the problem. Stuttering is driving me crazy. Thank goodness it’s not just me. Please fix this.
It seems it is full screen related issue maybe v-sync. I was also messing with maximum pre-rendered frames and set it to 1 for best results to decrease mouse lag, may be also related. When you switch do windowed, the stutter is gone. Hope this helps
I tried what Joker has suggested right above me here. I went to windows mode instead of full screen. It does help a lot, cant tell if It removes it completely. Better on the eye strain though. Tks

Worked for me.
Still a little stuttering but this “temp fix” improved a lot.
Thanks =)
I just tested it in Windows mode and didn’t seem to have any change. The stutter was just as bad
Any update on this bug yet?
having the same problem hope they fix this bug asap
nothing beyond the “we know about it” and that took 3 days to get… I am hoping by Tuesday , 1 week after the issues started, we will at least get an update
This bug needs to be fixed sooner, not just for the current players but also because of the potential problem it might cause for new players, new player smight dismiss this game completely if they come in and find it unplayable cause this bug so it is rather annoying that we have been waiting what 4 days now for a fix and it took 3 to get acknowledgement they were aware of the bug, not to mention those of us wishing to compete in the pvp league are being essentially blocked from taking part as we would simply be free kills/dead-weight for any team right now.
P.S. day 1 pvp league 2 I played 1 match witht he stutter bug affecting me, my combat performance was more then halfed cause of the issues the stutter bug causes. In spite of that my team won because I managed to at least give a few well placed time warps and the other 4 on my team were not affected by the stutter bug. Meaning 1/5 on my team was severely hindered aka me, we won but only be like 2-3 points which was in huge thanks again to the time warping on spawn caps on the temple of silent storm map. But me and my friend agreed that if pvping is gonna be that insanely difficult with stutter bug then it is best to not pvp until it’s fixed.
So please anet fix this, we been waiting patiently but this is kind of unacceptable you know? Current players frustrated cause the like the game but can’t play unless they want headaches and such, and people who buy the game now and happen to be affected might deem the game a bad purchase and demand refunds or not recommend it to friends.
I like this game a lot but the fact the stutter bug took this long to be publically acknowledged and on day 4 still no sign of a fix is problematic cause of the negativity it can cause.
Regard others as you would normally, the internet is not justification for mistreating others
I think I might be suffering from this bug as well. I have micro stutters in Open world, it is not so bad in unranked conquest, but the ping in LA for example is seeming high and my FPS is dropping to like 12 to 8 FPS at times. I am also noticing a Sound stutter very momentarily. I just had installed some upgrades to my pc, I was on XP (yeah yeah jokes can come in) but switched to 7 64 bit and got a newer Graphics card powersupply and harddrive was like what the **** why is my performance worse???? but now ,I’m seeing a familiar sounding issue happening to a lot of people. hope a fix is figured out, I love GW2 would like to be able to play without my ocd kicking in about the stutters
Same here, very annoying especially when i’m gliding/running around, please fix it asap !!
Side question: I haven’t really noticed any real stutter since the latest patch, except that my mouse seems really sluggish when it comes to turning. I’m too tired right now to try another mouse and see if it’s the same, but that might be the same problem?! I can turn fine for about half of the time, then my mouse doesn’t seem to gripe the ground and my character just runs forward – and it can take ages for him to turn if I want to backstab anything, but it’s not always the case. If this is a bug (and not my mouse) then it’s really weird.
ETA: Oh, btw: can we please return all camera options to how they have been ~a year ago, before first person was introduced? Make it separate options; I’m having deep trouble with my third person camera ever since and it’s really driving me crazy.

After trying window mode there was only a slight improvement, not enough to make the game playable. So it’s off to other games I go. Some sort of word on this issue would be nice.
Ok so i tried the windowed and that isnt it but when i set the frame limiter to 60 it became much smoother. Its still there though (refresh rate set default – doesnt seem to affect this issue). It is most noticable when you have action camera on going straight and turn via mouse or goin side ways.
If it has gotten smoother for you when you lowered the frame rate I have to wonder how bad it was in the 1st place for you. I have always played on the lowest settings and for 3.5 years have had an average frame rate of 8-10fps so I dont have any room to lower my framerate. I did notice however that my frame rate has been sightly higher, about 16fps, since this started, of course half of them are me going backwards.
Its not an issue with my setup (i5 4690k, GTX 960 4GB, 8GB RAM) mostly running 60 fps. Only drop under 20 in zergs namely Svanir shaman no it seems it is something with de-synchonization of monitor refresh rate and data comming from graphics card.
Well that would affect everything on the screen so its just in-game coding of the character movement. Guessing…

i’d assume some of the delay in the process is just layers of bureaucracy. A player posts a bug in a thread, comm person asks dev if it is a bug, dev replies to comm if it is, and then comm posts reply on forums.
Nevertheless, I have to agree with Takina — if while asking the dev team if it is a bug, a simple reply to forums like “hey we’re trying to confirm if this is a bug; stay tuned” would’ve gone a long way.
I’ve seen character stuttering only in personal story clips (I believe HoT act 3), but never in real-time. Possible weird card-specific reactions to graphics code?

Ive messaged a number of the people posting here to see if that could be the case and of the 5 responses Ive gotten back Ive had 4 different graphics cards.
Day 5 still no fix, are we really going to have to wait a week or more for this bug to be fixed? That’s a huge hindrance to those of us wanting to compete in pvp league 2

Ever since this last patch I’ve developed a micro on my character that’s rather noticeable and apparently I’m not the only one noticing this………..
Same issue here its annoying and effects game play quite a bit
Of course there is no way to know for certain, but I dont know if any ANET dev would have even responded if I hadnt PMed them since no one has come back and given any kind of update…
I cant say to know how common this is, Ive never been one to follow the forums much. Only here now because this bug directly impacts me.
Is this at all common? To get a bug like this that impacts the game so drastically for people and to have so little response and no fix going on a week into it?
Yes, there have been issues where players were not able to get past the character select screen (when a certain ip of Diessa Plateau was broken), also another instance where they couldn’t even get the client to patch/work (primarily affected Oceanic players), and many more that lasted for days/weeks. Those are just the most recent.
That being said, the Devs are working on it, it’s just a confusing bug. For a while when I was talking to Support, it was like trying to explain that the sky is green during the day. They didn’t understand what jibberish I was speaking. After 26 emails and a bunch of reports and documents from my computer, they informed me that my information would be passed on to the Devs to help resolve the issue and they could no longer troubleshoot on my side.
Unfortunately, and it’s horrible, we have a waiting game now. If only this had happened before Season 2. )’: Just remember, they are working on it. An update would be nice though, even if they have made little to no progress.
