Elementalists spell “grasping Vines” hardly ever works. When it is cast, the player or mob it is cast on is already running away from it before the animation is even done. Is it not meant to be cast on moving targets or what?

Bump. Sylvari grasping fines simply doesn’t work on moving targets …

The effect seems to have gone through a lot of changes, from AoE to single target and I read that in the beta you could cleanse the immobilize effect and just roll out of the vines … which doesn’t seem to work any more. Somewhere along the line though it stopped working on moving targets altogether. Now unless something stands still or walks through the vines after they formed it just doesn’t get grabbed.

I just realized why it works so badly … during the nerf they left it as an AoE effect, they just reduced radius, limited it to single target and auto-targeted it at the location of the target, without prediction. This of course doesn’t bloody work, it’s is an atrocious kludgy hack …

Lots of better ways to do it :

- Increase the radius, but leave it single target. It might not catch what was targeted but at least it catches something.

- Same as the first but pass along the target ID so only it can get caught, more work.

- Use good dead reckoning to target the AoE so stuff running in a straight line at least gets caught in it, even more work.

- Let us target the AoE so we at least have some chance of catching something moving, less work.

- Reimplement it as a targeted effect instead of an AoE effect like it should have bloody well been done in the first place.
