You can see this in the attached image, but High-Res Character Textures is CHECKED and is also greyed out. This was set by the system when I selected the Settings Preset and now I can’t remove it. I’m a Mac, and for Mac/32-bit this is supposed to be unchecked by default and greyed-out.

Not that I’m complaining mind you, but I’ve no idea if this is what is causing my crashes or not and whether the high-res textures are loading or not (I can’t see a difference from before). This occurred with the latest patch (November 19, 2015).

Oh that is interesting. I don’t even see that option in my Options. Are you running El Capitan by any chance (since I am not) ?

Nope, I’m running 10.10.5

And I’m on 10.9.5 (can’t upgrade since I need to be able to run a few programs that just won’t work on later versions and will not be updated sadly). I’ll have to take another look later today since I might have been mistaken.

Re-checked and I do have that option, sorry about that. I guess I didn’t think much of it since it’s greyed out. Mine isn’t checked though, but interestingly, I stumbled across a thread about this very option in the technical support forum – resurrected from it’s initial post a year ago I believe:
