1. I start the quest and spawn correctly, but nothing happens. Can’t talk to anyone, no cutscene starts, nothing.
2. I relog and it happens again.
3. I relog again, I start the quest and spawn inside a box no larger than my character and can’t move at all.
4. I relog once more, spawn correctly but same thing as in 1. happens again…
This story quest is bugged. I can’t even start it.
What’s your current story step? If it’s meeting the strike team, note that the NPC you need to talk to is down in the hold of the ship, so his story marker is obscured a bit by the ship itself. Speaking to him and selecting the dialogue marked by the story star will direct you to go up on the deck, where a cutscene will play out.
I just wanted to say that my GF had this very same issue, and that there were no quest mark visible until she terminated the game and logged in again.
We ran around the whole island twice, trying to find out where to go…

Yes, I’ve just had the same challenge. Definitely a problem, and definitely still present. On entry to the story I was up on deck, with the step “Join the assault force at Claw Island” showing. There was no story marker on my compass or map (nor did I see one over the NPC below decks when I finally found him). No cut scene played to give me a hint as to where to go. Logging out to character select made no difference (I didn’t try a full close of the client).
By consequence, until I came here I was completely at a loss as to how to get the story to move forward. (I should add that this is my 6th character to do “Retribution”, so I was quite familiar with what was due to happen – but I couldn’t remember the fine detail of how to trigger it. Something was different, because I definitely didn’t have this problem on previous occasions.)
I have done this mission several times, and the most recent time I’ve done the mission, I spawned above deck on the ship, rather than inside like usual.
The mission entry was to join the fight, not talk to a guy below deck… but since I had done it so many times, I knew what to do, and had no problem locating the guy below deck, talking to him, and continuing on along normally.
