BUG: Shadows/ground fx broken in stereo 3D
Can also confirm this.
Additionally, some lighting effects only rendering in one eye.
More screenshots showing bugged shadows and ground effects. The green marks are out of depth, rendering at the screen level rather than on the ground. Even if I move far at a distance, the marks do not.
Devs, would greatly appreciate your attention to these issues as it would be a great shame to render this game unplayable in 3d. Thanks.
Also having this problem since patch. Game is now completely unplayable in 3d. Please fix asap. Thanks
Another rendering issue caused by the new patch. When welding Twilight, it forms blotches on my screen rather than on the ground.
Also having this issue. Tried playing with shadow and shader options with no luck.
I know that we 3d vision users are a rare breed but it would be a real waste, especially considering previous support, to let one of the great 3d showcases go to waste because of this patch. Fingers crossed that someone actually reads this on the developer side, otherwise we will be reduced to zero depth high convergence play (still looks better than super sampling in my opinion).
Another render bug from Golem Mark II’s AoE due to Tuesday’s patch.
The 2nd screenshot is from last November and how the orange AoE is supposed to be rendered.
I also would like to add my request the shadows be looked over in Stereoscopic 3D mode, they are completely broken. This has only occurred since the patch this week.
I can confirm that I have several issues regarding stereo 3D after the patch.
As there are many issues I don’t expect the developers to fix their new lighting system to be 3D vision compatible. BUT it would be very helpfull if they could offer the option to use the old lighting system that worked perfectly with 3D vision.

Today’s patch rolled in. Shadows and ground effects still having depth rendering issue.
Please fix this devs, this game was were I went for a near perfect 3D MMO fix.
Can confirm shader problems, the game is now unplayable.
I like to remind the devs that there is an stereoscopic checkbox in the option menu.
Perhaps the game could default to the old lighting system when the 3d box is ticked in the options.
This would avoid any unwanted confusion among non 3d users.
Have any of you reported these issue via the in game tool or just posted them here on the forum
Msi Z87 Gaming Board AMD R9 270x
-crucial 256 M500 SSD -Samsung 500Gb HDD
I reported it via the Bug tool, though I didn’t see a specific category for graphics problems.
I have also reported it as a bug – IT IS A BUG if a graphic option (3D-rendering) isn’t working any more. So I think we all should do that.
Also the Nvidia rating as “excellent” should be changed to “not recommended” and advertising about the support for stereoscopic gameplay should be removed. Regarding the increasing interest in virtual reality and the introduction of the first person view in the game for better immersion it would be a fatal signal when the developers would drop the support for stereoscopic gameplay just now.
Especially as we already had a perfect lighting system for 3D and we only need the option to continue using this system in the future.
I tried Tridef3D drivers and works fine, but with NVidia Vision the shadow is broken.
With tridef I m able to play also with oculus rift. So I believe the NVidia needs to update the GW2 profile.
I can’t use Tridef3D with my hardware and besides from that I wouldn’t like to pay for 3rd party software when I was able to play the game all the time with my Nvidia 3Dvision hardware and drivers. It would be great if Nvidia would release a driver that could fix the issues after the fix. But I don’t expect this to happen without cooperation from ArenaNet. And I fear that each company passes the buck to the other regarding a fix for this bug. To me the best solution is still to offer the option to use the old lighting system for 3DVision users.

Support suggested running GW2 as Administrator and running repair, but that did nothing even if I tried the methods. There were no files that needed to be downloaded.
The rendering issue remains.
CesarWell, the ball is on Nvidia’s court now. Hope a new driver can fix the stereoscopic 3D rendering issue caused by last week’s game build release (Build 46,472). It would be sad to see Guild Wars 2 lose the “Excellent” rating for Nvidia 3D Vision.
After the new patch went live, the shadows and AoE effects on the ground renders completely out of depth when activating stereoscopic 3D via Nvidia 3D Vision. Even if I disable the shadow in the graphics option, they are still rendered on the ground.
Below is a stereo screenshot showing the rendering issue in 3D. Simply cross-eyeing to merge the two images will show that the orange AoE is out of depth.
This issue did not occur before the patch.
I have seen people glitching across the map much more since the most recent patch.
The database also exhibited numbers where there should be names for days.
Now there are more issues that should all be here but aren’t… The patch still isn’t fixed.
Awesome 3D was why I played GW2. Please fix, devs!
2nd that, really want 3d back
Anyone else tried stereo screen shots since the bug? That is also messed up for me. Looks like left eye is getting the top left quadrant of the shot, and right eye is getting top right quadrant of the shot.
Guess I can’t attach a jps file.
In-game stereoscopic screenshot button looks bugged in first person view. I use Nvidia’s stereoscopic screenshot hotkey instead since it’s more effective in taking stereo screenshot than the one built into the game.
Forums don’t take .jps file. Save it as a side-by-side .jpg with a photo/graphic editor.
How can they say that GW2 does not support 3D? They have a dedicated graphics option for it ffs!
Sounds to me like GW2 Support trying to pre-emptively divert blame before properly analysing the root cause. I just wish we knew for certain whose problem this is so we can put some pressure on them. Otherwise it’ll just end up bouncing back and forth until it’s forgotten, and that would be a huge shame!
Back to ANet on this one.
Nvidia Support Reference #150326-000310:
As the game developer has updated the patch for the game Guild Wars 2, support for 3D has been disabled, hence updating a new driver will not help this as the game is not supported on 3D.
We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused.
If there are any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.
I look forward to your reply.

Not much to do now. We can only hope that someday a new build update will support 3D Vision again.
Here’s a PAX video recap of how 3D Vision was supported in Guild Wars 2 back in 2011: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZGC2eDwwWg&t=3m3s
I won’t play Guild Wars 2 any more if they just drop the support for 3DVision. Stereoscopic 3D is to me not a “nice to have” but needless gimmick. To me it’s an essential gameplay element. To be forced to play in 2D feels to me like others would feel if they had to change from 5.1 surround to mono sound and 32bit colors to 256. This is not the same game any more – and not a game I want to play furthermore. Guild Wars 2 was my first MMORPG I have played. And maybe it will be my last (at least from ArenaNet). It was a very frustrating experience that a game I have put hundreds of hours and my heart and soul into can just be killed by single patch that removes a basic feature of the game (without mentioning it or even being noticed?!). This really hurts! In the future I will stick to offline RPGs that allow me to decide whether I want them to get patched or not. Thank You for teaching me this lesson

I have a birthday coming up, and I had asked for GW2 gems. However, I will not be putting any more money into GW2 until 3D support is fixed.
Started playing last year but quit because I do not like playing mmo’s without a first person view option, well you finally fixed that. I was sad that I had to leave the first time, it is a beautiful game with my 3D Vision. Well you finally put a first person view which was fantastic.
But when I finally downloaded the game again and started playing I found out that my 3D is totally useless and it appears you are passing the buck to Nvidia to fix it and claiming GW2 was not 3d compatable (although there is an option in the game video menu).
I guess I wasn’t meant to play GW2. Good luck Anet I will check back next year to see if you have fixed 3D ( for now I can use the disk space).
Oh well back to WOW, the 3d is almost perfect and I still enjoy the game.
I am quite disappointed this no longer works.
Please fix!
BUMP
I’m a long time 3D Vision gamer having used the technology since it launched. I generally will not play any titles on PC that either don’t support 3D Vision or at least have an effective community created patch/fix in place. This was one of the best looking titles to play in 3D and it added a ton of scale and immersion to the game. Playing without 3D makes it feel small and flat. I stopped playing for a while and just recently became active again when a couple of friends decided to buy the game. With the shadows/lighting being such a mess in 3D, I’m losing interest again.
Please provide a fix for the next patch or at least the option to use the previous lighting/shadow system when stereoscopic 3D is enabled.
Thanks for your time!!
I hope their non-response to this thread does not signal their intention to ignore this problem. This game was incredible in 3D.
Yeah please fix this ANet!
If you turn shadows off completely it is just about playable, but the effect is lessened somewhat. 3D seems to be becoming more popular all the time as more and more people get 3D capable TV’s/Projectors/Monitors. I assume the last thing a company would want to do is drop support for this just as there is a boom in popularity!
Some news from Anet please ?
Thanks for your time.
I played last night after the latest patch and the latest nvidia driver updates; I think it is a bit better . . . but I may be wrong, I was a bit tired last night and I only played for about 20 minutes. It still wasn’t “fixed” fully, but it did seem better.
Anyone else tried it with the latest patch and nvidia update?
I just checked it, still completely borked. With shadows completely off it’s only mildly nauseating but still terrible. I really want to play GW2, and it’s certainly playable in 2D but it annoys me to no end knowing how beautiful it once was that I just can’t bring myself to log in.
Yeah I logged in again last night and I agree its still broken. Maybe I was just in an area where I noticed it less the night before
aNet PLEASE address this issue. This game was hands-down one of THE best 3D media experiences on the market. This “shadows problem” for nVidia users is really unacceptable, and I would be willing to bet most (or at least a significant percent) of the people playing in 3D use nVidia hardware. Your team put so much effort into making the game look awesome in 3D, and then one patch messes it up and you are just like “meh”?
Fellow players: do NOT let this thread die. aNet will eventually listen!
As opposed to the nVidia users, I’m using an AMD Radeon and Tri-Def 3D for gaming. The problem however is the same: Shadows, some skills (for example the ranger fall-dmg one) and the markings that the master of peace left in the silverwastes are rendered at a different depth than they should be.
Especially the shadows bothered me a lot after the patch, however I’ve managed to ignore them by now.
I am so glad there is a thread on this with plenty of other people saying this ruins the game for them. Like, this game is epic in 3D, it’s very hard to go back to 2D. And right now it is unplayable in 3D, even with shadows turned off there’s still static terrain shadows that render in front of everything and make it look terrible.
Please fix this aNet. PLEASE!
I am glad this thread was created, as I learned that GW2 supports 3D and multi monitors. Awesome! I hope they fix this. I will be keeping on eye on the progress and when I get my new computer I may consider getting a 3D headgear.
@BunjiKugashira: So even Tridef isn’t working any more?! When Darkdna said that it would be “fine” with Tridef I even was thinking about buying new hardware that works with Tridef to be able to play GW2 again. But now even this hope to revive GW2 for me got smashed
Arenanet: PLEASE give us the option to use the old lighting engine again!!!
I don’t know how bad this problem is for 3D Vision users, but this is what it looks like with HD3D. Left eye is the above picture and right eye is below.
Issues since launch:
- NPC-names are on the same layer as the interface (notice the Moa)
Issues since patch:
- Texture-changers (Skills and the markings of the master of peace in sw) are at a different depth than the surface they’re on. Usually everything that’s for the right eye is offset a bit to the right while everything for the left eye is offset a bit to the left. Notice how the ice-spot does the exact opposite.
- The shadows have completely different lengths. Again the shadow for the right eye is offset to the left and vice versa. Just like the texture-changers!
From what I can see all Texture-changers seem to be rendered at distance 0. This needs to change!
Warning, my settings are kinda extreme and can cause nausea for people who aren’t used to it. Don’t try to view these screen-shots in 3D if you aren’t prepared.

Daily BUMP till this gets fixed! (or at least acknowledged by ANet)
