BUG: Shadows/ground fx broken in stereo 3D
If NVIDIA is everyone’s graphics then it may not be the fault of Anet. NVIDIA’s last game ready graphic update has caused a whole lot of problems in many games for various graphic cards.

Well, but NVIDIA isn’t everyone’s graphics. The same problem also persists for AMD users. The problem is not bound to one company / one chipset but can be found with any 3D-capable setup. And now tell me that everyone but ANet is at fault!
No it is not an nVidia problem. Anet rep has said “the game does not support 3D”. That is their lazy, lame excuse for breaking the 3D and not wanting to do anything about it, when what they should do is admit IT IS A BUG, and just fix it. If you read the thread on nvidia’s forums about it, nvidia responded by saying:
“As the game developer has updated the patch for the game Guild Wars 2, support for 3D has been disabled, hence updating a new driver will not help this as the game is not supported on 3D.”
Which makes sense. If the developer of a game breaks the 3D in their own game engine, no amount of driver updates are going to fix it.
ANET NEEDS TO FIX THIS.

Has anyone tried rolling back their driver to see if it fixes the issue? That would put this argument to bed one way or the other.

I have not updated my drivers since February (currently running 347.52), the OP already stated 3D stopped working properly right after the major patch in March, and someone in this thread confirmed 3D was not working right for them with Tridef drivers either. There is no argument.
Anet broke the 3D experience in this game, which was, frankly, one of the most amazing aspects of the game’s experience. Anet needs to PLEASE fix it.
Cool, thanks for the feedback
That proves that the latest nvidia driver didn’t break 3D, even though it might have broken other things. Ball is back in ANets court . . . . although since they haven’t even acknowledged this thread I’m not overly hopeful this will be fixed soon
I was able to change the topic title to a more accurate title with under 45 characters. Luckily, it didn’t break any URLs linking to this page.
I hope the devs address the 3D rendering issue in the future game update. It’s not good going a step backward against the features they originally supported.
Ty, I’m glad the title makes clear that this is a general problem with stereoscopic 3D and not limited to NVidia 3D-Vision. This affects way more people than ANet is probably aware of.
Well it appears they’ve fixed things somewhat. Currently with Shaders set to High the ground is black, but at Medium everything seems to render in 3D properly except the target rings.
Thanks Anet for the fix, was a joy playing the game again “the way it’s meant to be played”

I can confirm with multiple effects in one screenshot. Effects are fixed from today’s patch for the most part (Build 48,276, April 28, 2015):
1. Depth of shadows are now fixed to the ground.
2. Depth of AoE and ground effects are now fixed.
3. Certain effects from weapons (black blotches from Twilight, Necro’s markings, etc.) are now rendered in correct depths.
What’s still out of depth in stereoscopic rendering mode is the blue/green/red circles on the ground when you select a target.
YES! CONFIRMED WORKING!
THANK YOU ANET!!!!
Everything looks amazing again! Thank you so much for fixing it. It’d be nice if everyone who commented would thank the anet team who fixed this.
Yes shaders set to high also turns ground black for me, but shaders set to “medium” is how i always play the game, because it is the highest setting you can play at and abyss, midnight ice, and midnight fire will actually look black. Shaders set to “high” and with the lighting they always look washed out.
Here’s the mentioned black ground issue when Shaders setting is set to High in 3D. Some areas also show a tint of red on one eye, and blue on the other eye.
Other than a few issues remaining from last month’s patch, legacy glitches also remain (the green arrow, star, ANet icons, and LFG icons next to player’s tag).

Circles under target render at wrong depth and ruin experience. ArenaNet plz fix asap

There are still UI items rendering at the wrong depth which we’d also like to see fixed, because we do appreciate the effort you guys put into making the game look great.
I haven’t had a chance to try it yet, but thanks for fixing most of it!
One thing I would say though; your community relations should be a lot better. If someone (doesn’t have to be a dev) could just post in threads like this saying “We acknowledge the issue and we are working on it. We hope to have at least some functionality restored in the next patch” it would make a huge difference to how people perceive the company as a whole.
I don’t want to finish on a negative point, so again . . . great job and thanks for listening!
Thanks for the fixes devs, much appreciated.
Wow, now this was totally unexpected! Thank you for addressing this Anet.
I do hope you resolve the rest of it and fix the black floor on high and the markers.
I don’t post often but as an avid and addicted 3d user, this is a pleasant surprise where this technology usually is forgotten by developers.
Forget 4k, a properly configured and supported 3Dvision game is by far the most significant Graphical update you can make to your system. I wish more people knew what they were missing.
You have secured a long absent player for the expansion with this fix.
I did submit a bug report when I first noticed this with the recent update and will do so again for the remaining issues, but I’m impressed you guys appear to be listening.
It’s fixed? Was it only fixed for NVidia or do I have to change my settings anywhere?
I still get the same bugged shadows and skill-effects as before.
Also can you pls enable 3-D-Rendering for AMD-cards? I’d like to have a piece of that awesome 3D-Map and in-depth character names.
Edit: Got shadows and ground fx working now. Still I’d like to have the awesome 3D-map and in-depth character-names with TriDef 3D. Pretty please?

this is the most truest thing in the history of history. People just don’t know.
Was able to get on yesterday, and able to get 3D to work again! Also confirming target rings are still broken, but as it now appears 3D users have not in fact been forgotten, I’m sure this will eventually be fixed. I can tolerate the issue until then.
Thank you Anet, I’m happy to end my fiscal embargo
Would like to sincerely thank ArenaNet for putting forth the effort into fixing the lighting/shadows issues for us 3D Vision players. The game looks fantastic again!! Wanted to confirm that I did have to bump my shaders down to medium as textures were black/missing and some were anaglyph colored (red / cyan). No complaints, though. I’d much rather play in nearly perfect 3D with shaders bumped down a notch than try to continue playing with broken lighting/shadows.
Thanks for listening to us 3D Vision players. I’ll be playing as much as possible. Keep up the great work!!
This are great news! I’m just downloading the last patch(es) as I didn’t play any more since 3D got broken and now I can’t wait to get back to Tyria…
Thank You so much for listening to our feedback and bringing back my faith in MMORPGs
Update: Started the game and can confirm that the game is playable in 3D again! Would be nice if UI issues like broken target rings could be fixed, too. But with the right settings the most annoying issues are removed. I know where I will spend the next hours, days…

“Since last update, i have a texture bug on every map, floor textures are black with blue effect on red eye and red effect en right eye!”
Same bug for me :’(

As some people have mentioned above, a workaround for this issue is to set shaders to Medium. I’ve only just come across this info and haven’t tested it myself, but I’ll be doing so as soon as I get home!
