If you haven’t done ‘Sad Anomaly – Burden of Choice’ current event and talked to Auris Weirdbringer and got the Class II Rift Stabilizer than please don’t comment.

This is really really really sad. You made this event and clued players to use the code ‘97’ and turn us into anomalies. And now random players kill us for fun because we can’t fight back and we can’t talk to the NPC. We tell them not to do it and they do it anyways because its fun. This is the worst current event— the worst event period— you guys have released. Unless you wanted to know how malicious other players can be. They know we can’t report them. This event shouldn’t be run like wvw or pvp. and if you are going to do something like this than at least let us fight back I’m about done with this game.

No need to turn yourself into an Anomaly. Didn’t even know you could.

To complete the Burden of Choice achievement, all you need to do to unlock it (and then follow the guide in the Current Event achievement panel) is to walk up to a phantom Anomaly. (The NPC kind that has been haunting us for months, not a player one [which I, personally, have never seen].)

The ‘Weird…’ NPC is for a different quest line altogether. See the Wiki for a walk-through: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Class_I_Rift_Stabilizer

I’ve finished all the current content released with this patch. (Unless there is some hidden achievement that has to do with your player-anomalies. It may be just a joke.)

Good luck.

I’m afraid I have. I see nothing in the Wiki article about changing into an anomaly.

I’m guessing you are using the Roman Numeral IX in the first skill slot, and the Roman Numeral VII in the second skill slot.

What about skill slots 3 thru 5? The going theory is that we must wait for Class II Rifts to use the Class II Activator effectively.

It still may be a ‘joke’ from the Devs. It certainly doesn’t/didn’t advance the quest.

That walk through doesn’t say anything about needing to change into an anomaly. I used the 9-7 and the 7-9 combination and nothing changed for me.

That aside, I’m not sure why the OP is so upset. There are 3 possibilities:

  • It’s a bug; you’re not supposed to turn into an anomaly at all.
  • It’s a bug; anomalies aren’t supposed to be ‘hostile’ to other players or they are supposed to be invulnerable to other players skills.
  • It’s not a bug and there’s some meaning we haven’t divined yet, that requires us being vulnerable to our allies, e.g. maybe we shouldn’t have been killing all these anomalies we see.

Which ever it is, we can play the game just fine without knowing the answer now or until the next patch. The current achievements can be completed and it doesn’t affect anything else in the game.

PS I doubt it’s the the third; ANet has long resisted allowing any part of the PvE landscape to have any PvP aspects (with the exception of leaderboards for adventures and achievement points).

It’s true that other players take great joy in killing one as an Anomaly. It may be like when we used the Mursaat costume, that was later fixed.

Regardless, it has nothing to do with progressing either the newest Current Event, nor the new Rift content. I hope to, some day, be able to speak to Weirdbringer as an Anomaly, to contribute the outcome to the Wiki. Someone will likely beat me to it, though. Lol.

Oh, edit: Na, it’s IX in skill slot 1 and VII in skill slot 2, then jumping near a Rift. There’s a small (5% or so?) chance to turn into an Anomaly while jumping. I’m also trying to determine what, exactly, fills the channeling bar, and whether the bar has anything to do with turning into an Anomaly.

I am a little bit confused about your reaction. This is posted by OP in the bug forum. As you said this is probably a bug so it belongs here. If it isn’t a bug this is the worst event ArenaNet ever implemented. Even if you don’t have to change into an anomaly it can happen and in that case you get killed. Hey, I killed a player last night by accident because I realised to late that it wasn’t a mob. This has to be changed rather sooner than later.

I think it’s random. I turned into an anomaly two times yesterday. First time with 4-4 (or 4-6? Don’t remember it exactly) and 2nd time with 13-11.
You can’t talk to NPCs (didn’t check Auris) while transformed and some yellow mobs attack you if you get close to them. If you leave the map you will no longer be transformed. Also some NPCs will turn hositle for some reason.

Interesting. Then, I wonder what the significance, if any, that 97 has. Would still like to find out if the 97-change enables one to interact with Weirdbringer.

Thanks for the update. Will add to Wiki.

I was responding to the OP’s strong reaction that they are ready to quit the game.

I agree that it’s a bug — that’s all the OP needed to say.

This really needs to be fixed or otherwise explained. There are players forming squads just to hunt down players who turn into the anomaly before they get a chance to figure this out. This is the opposite of everything this game has worked towards. Seeing players now is frustrating instead of happy.

I should not be purposely hunted down, even after asking people not to kill me, while I’m testing stuff and trying to take pictures to show my friends. I should not be ganged up on and ridiculed in map chat for not finding fun in being repeatedly killed for no reason, because I’m trying to explore the content provided to us. This ability to be damaged by fellow players in PvE brings out the worst in people and I sincerely hope being vulnerable is a bug. We can’t even fight back or heal while in anomaly form. It’s nothing but frustrating.

Hmm, usually I’m not much into bringing up theories and stuff but something came up to my mind… This could even sound like “conspiracy theory” but.. [wears a tin foil hat] it feels like devs/Anet are testing some type of competitive stuff in PvE to check the player’s reaction regarding that. :P

First, the “bug” with that ley-line event where players were able to “steal” from other players, then the Mursaat Armor causing players to show up as hostile/enemy, and now this one.

Either that or some intern has been messing up with ally/enemy code :P

Nah I’m just joking. This needs to be fixed or addressed soon as possible. One of the things that got me hooked to the game was the cooperative nature of PvE and having a competitive mode separated from it. If this is going to change then I might ponder about leaving the game. Hopefully it’s just a occasional bug indeed.
