Tonight I got hit with a really awesome (but in no way exploitative) bug, that basically made me invisible (to myself). I think it had something to do with existing the Nightmare Labyrinth and being in Pollen ball form when it happened, but basically my character model was completely gone. My weapons would sometimes appear when in combat, and occasionally my backpiece if I didn’t turn it off, but otherwise, nothing. The best part of this though, FIRST PERSON MODE!
Ok, it wasn’t 100% FPS mode, the camera was technically still slightly behind my avatar’s head, but it mostly felt first person, taking long jumps was stomach-plummeting, and approaching NPCs really gave me a better sense of scale with my tiniest Asura possible character. Combat was nearly unplayable, there was no situational awareness and lining up melee hits was a little tricky, but it was still pretty fun, and wandering around was great! They really should consider letting players zoom in to minimum distance and have the player model vanish deliberately, it’s a lot of fun.
Changing zones removed this effect, but nothing else I did reset it, including WPing from death.

This happened to me about 3/4 of the way through a guild rush. Amazingly I was able to finish the rush without dying by assuming my character was always in the middle of the screen. It was extremely weird though.
This bug has been occuring for a few people I’ve been hearing. A bunch of people had it happen to them when I was in WvW a few nights ago.
I’m glad you’re enjoying it :P But please do consider using in-game support to report the bug so they can nail down it’s source. My friend had it happen to them and they are an extreme noob so it wasn’t so much fun as it was horrifyingly confusing.
It also happens quite often in Thaumanova fractal, so it probably has something to do with transformations and lag. I ask my party to target me or just tag up so that I can see where I’m supposed to be on the disappearing platforms. Relogging is also an option, but it’s time consuming.
Also happens on a constant basis when I use my permanent hairstylist kit and i find it to be extremely infuriating.
I had this happen to me in LA after using a hair style kit! All I could see was my pet, and my bow. The rest of me was gone; although everyone else could see me just fine. I thought it was funny as hell
This happens to me every time I run the bear lope guild rush under the Priory in Lornar’s Pass, in the same exact location (the grawl caves) and only lasts for the same amount of time consistently. It is strange though, since other players can see me, and it doesn’t happen to my guildies who are also doing the rush.
I had a ‘similar’ bug during the ’Caithe’s Reconnaissance Squad’ instance. I say similar because it was a permanent graphical glitch that looked cool and lasted until I ended the instance.
I used the `Swoop` skill on my Ranger and during the process of the attack was downed and then instantly rallied. This caused the bird wings animation from `swoop` to crash, and for the rest of the instance my character had flapping birds wings. They even remained after doing another swoop attack.
This happens to me in DR all the time if I go to close to a wall. When I move away my character has disappeared.
I have a question. Isn’t there a way to turn off your character model by programs or something? >_> I mean, it wouldn’t give you advantage, would it?

Well… if they could program it so that your character model becomes invisible to you, on your computer, while still being visible to everyone else…
Actually, the more I think about that, the more I wonder how viable that is, since it could be something client-side, as opposed to server-side…
I have never heard of any game trying such a thing, however… so I do wonder what the possible limitations of this idea are.

I had the same thing happen to me in Rata Sum! At the beginning it was really freaky, because I couldn’t figure out where I was going or where I was (attempting to get the vista on top of the cooking station) Relogging fixed this for me though.

TF2 has an option to hide your character’s arm/weapon. That’s the only example I could give you.
