Bot invasion
ANet bans bots all the time and new bots take their place. They don’t always ban accounts immediately after a report; they like to observe known bots for a while to document their behavior.
A lot of bots are run by human beings working under sweat-shop like conditions. They don’t have any trouble authenticating a color or texture pattern every 15 minutes to keep the bot account active.
The only thing that will stop bots is when players stop doing business with 3rd party gold sellers. As long as people are willing to use their credit cards to pay for virtual gold, bots will continue to farm for loot in every game. All the producers can hope to do is keep them to a minimum.
I’ve added the bots that I’ve reported to my friends list. They are all still online and never logoff…. where’s your proof of ANY bot bannings being done?

While I do agree with you to some extent…I don’t think this is exactly right.
I remember one time I logged on at 8 am EST and saw a botter in gandarren fields (sp) farming small scales or something. That’s usually where I go to farm them when I need them. How did I know he was botting? He stood in the center of a shallow water area, and would run to the monster when it spawned, kill it, and run back to the exact same spot every time. That is clearly not human behavior. I watched him for 10 minutes and sent him a few tells (while competing for kills). No response, same pattern. I then reported him and left that area.
I come back after about…10 hours or so…same bot…same spot…same pattern.
Now, I know Anet has a lot on their plate right now, so I don’t really blame them all that much. Between all the bugs and all the connection issues, their team is probably working almost 24/7 trying to get things up and running for everyone. Delay is normal.
However…how many small scales do you think that bot made in that 10 hour period? How much gold? My guess would be a lot.
The problem is because rarer mats are in such high demand (people level faster than they can get them), that all someone has to do is bot and bam, they make a lot of money. That makes gold selling in GW2 even easier than in other games.
While I agree there would be no bots if people didn’t buy gold using real life money…if the bots weren’t there, there would be no gold to sell. Or at least that would seriously cut down on their profits.
Botting has just gotten out of control from what I’ve seen in the lower level areas. On my ranger I saw a group of 3 rangers, with random names like “sshhr” all with the same pets and same gear running around almost stacked on one another just using the same abilities at the same time. I don’t want to sound cold but I mean how long does it take for that kind of behavior to be seen as botting if 20-30 people (doing events around them) all report them around the same time.

If they are still in the same spot 10 hours later they are probably getting junk if any drops at all. Anti-bot code.
Bots will exist until people stop buying gold.
Bots will exist until they figure out a way to prevent them. Bots aren’t getting hit hard enough, if they somehow prevent gold selling, players will bot to get that same gold.
They need to get some real kitten GM’s and get active about this kitten before it’s too late. This sit back and see what happens approach isn’t going to do anything but miss their chance and lose players at an ever increasing rate.

Well they are in the same area. It was rangers, so they run after the monster then run back so it’s not technically the same exact spot. It would always be a couple feet off. Even just junk, it adds up over 10 hours of time.
anti bot feature is garbage, ive personally farmed for 10 hours and that code doesnt affect drops during events, which is where bots are set at so pls people who talk about anti bot feature, start thinking how bots actually work and dont do senseless speculations.
people runing bots arent idiots and a code like that one has way to many flaws.
There needs to be a system in place where if a certain number of players reports someone for the same thing, they game takes over and auto-kicks the reported player until a GM can get around to reviewing it.
Yep, I agree with D W. I run across them frequently… the funniest was a Ranger that I swear was reminiscent of a sprinkler… turning in a circle while holding the Auto-attack. First one I know for certain was botting was a group of 3-4 avatars in one spot attacking with a spread shot to hit anything. That was in the Charr 50-60 zone by a bridge.
Here’s a suggestion.
Revamp the “Report” option.
When a player reports a suspected bot. A window will pop-up from the screen of the reported player.
It may ask for Captcha, Color Codes, Questions, Match Making, Riddles or whatever Arena Net finds suitable.
Of course, this Window has “allocated time”, per say 30 seconds.
Punishment suggestion:
(i) After 30 Seconds, the reported player will then be “teleported / moved” to a “PRISON MAP” where "Using a Waypoint is not allowed. Using a "move to player (overflow) is also not allowed).
(ii) The Reported player who did not answer/respond to the “pop-up window” will be given a 24hr “Condition”. Lets say -50% HP , -50% Toughness & -50% Movement Speed (crippled).
(iii) If the reported player does not respond, the Dhumm will appear! :P
Other
Arena Net should also implement a system as a counter limit to “how many times” can a single account(character) be moved to prison, given conditions or killed by Dhumm before getting banned.
Example:
If PlayerA was imprisoned for 3 times, he gets 72hrs Temporary Ban. (1st Offense)
If PlayerA was imprisoned for 5 times, he gets 1 week Temporary Ban. (2nd Offense)
If PlayerA was imprisoned for 7 times, he gets Permanent Ban. (3rd Offense)
This also applies to Conditions & or Killed by Dhumm count.
What do you think?
