There have been some changes that I would consider the results are a bug / breaking changes.
As many of us who will read this know MMOS are a dynamic game, and that they do change. This is
expected and we know that stuff from launch will not be the same down the road.
Guild Wars 2 (GW2) so far is a darn good game but things have started taking a downward spiral. It
seems that the developers have started the OMFG I am in panic mode patching and changing things.
* Enter first change
Players found a BUG where prices for items were set too low. They bought tons of items and
converted into epic items at the dreaded mystic forge, thus gearing out and making money.
o GW2 Solution:
* BAN players for their bug, Raise all item costs to sky high amounts.
o Result:
* Casual players can’t afford these type of items
* Example: as a level 40 I was stoked to get my karma epic weapons.
Finally I get something that I could have some coolness to and feel like I achieved.
o Reasoning?
* They do not want people to take these items and make money nor get epic weapons ?
* They want to continue to make money and get people to buy gems for gold?
o Better solution (maybe):
* Remove mystic forge (Maybe?)
* Set sell prices of used items to 1 copper.
Change Tier COLOR level to not work in forge.
* Second Change
Players buying karma items for cooking and selling made items for money
(Is this so bad really?)
o GW2 Solution:
* Make karma items for bulk items no trade
* Make crafted items no sell.
(Why have vendors anyways then? Or even craft?)
* Ban Players for using this method to make money
o Result:
* Players can’t help friends with getting materials for crafting.
* People using other methods to gain materials such as abusing overflow / Relog.
* Crafting turned into a money sink.
o Reasoning?
* They want people to buy gold for gems?
* Extreme control over economy of game.
* This is understood and expected, but this is harsh.
o Better Solution?
* Lower Sell price.
* Change bulk items from karma to gold.
* Have crafting cool down which after x levels or creation you need a break.
* Third change
Some level 80 items were being sold for cheap thus giving the same effect as change 1
o GW2 Solution
* Make cost extremely high.
o Reason
* Mystic forge combine into epics.
o Result
* New level 80 players cant get a custom look from their order choice.
* Gear who is good for looks and unique but crappy stats is no longer desirable.
* Frustrating to casual players who want to make their look unique.
o Reasoning
* Mystic forge combines into epic gear for gold.
o Better solution?
* Remove mystic forge
* Make this gear exempt from forge.
* Lower gear tier level so can’t be combined into epics
* Fourth change
Items Bought from vendors can’t be broken down for materials. Or people were getting sigiles
out of karma items and selling?
o GW2 Solution
* The problem is the solution for GW2, I do not know why but this change was
due to one of the previous changes I think.
o Result
* Players who want to level up crafting have to get drops and can’t buy their way
to get materials.
* IMHO if they want to buy the mats they should be able to, it gets
xpensive and is an acceptable money sink.
* Hard to get sigils to gear out your fresh gear?
o Reasoning
* There must have been some exploit or something that they did not like thus
ruining a valid method of leveling up crafting and such.
* They don’t want people getting sigils for karma?
o Better Solution?
* If it had to do with the forge remove it!
* To be honest this change is just not needed at all.. Would have skipped it.
