I was checking out my achievements in my hero panel and saw that I was 1 kill away from completing Harpoon mastery giving me 5 achievement points. I was currently on my necro and could not perform this action, so I changed to my engi went underwater in Queensdale to kill a yellow, trash, mob river drake. I killed it didn’t get the progress, so I was like, maybe It can’t be a yellow mob? Went to Kessex Hills found a shark killed it, still no progress, found another shark killed it same no change. Then I was like let me get on my warrior, so now I am on my warrior in Kessex Hills killing the same sharks still nothing. Now I’m convinced that this is bugged, either the progress is wrong and I am a lot further away from 500 and it is showing up as 499/500, or for some reason it just isn’t registering that I am killing things with a harpoon gun.

Has anyone had this same issue, Can someone help me out please.

P.S. my achievements are not completely bugged because I was able to complete Nightmares Court’s Bane recently.

No time to check right now, but if the last damage done by the Harpoon is condition damage, the kill won’t count. Try killing an ambient critter that will die with the first hit.

The ‘Harpoon’ achievement is for kills with spear, not speargun.

I just tried it out in Queensdale and Sparkfly Fen.

My counter stays at 718 no matter what I kill.

BUT

If I use my spear to kill stuff, THEN the harpoon counter goes up and vice versa.

o.O

so harpoon and speargun are mixed up.

They’re not mixed up, as the speargun achievement is called ‘Speargun’, it’s just that spear’s achievement is confusingly named.

HAHAHA, that was the problem. Why can’t they call it Spear like in game?

- please use a harpoon(gun) of your choice and a spear(gun) of your choice.
- kill something with one and the other
- look where the kills register in your hero panel

or in other much simpler words:

killing a fish with my harpoon shows up in the Speargun Master achievement
AND
killing a fish with my spear shows up in the Harpoon Master achievement

How is this not mixed up?

It’s just confusing naming. Spears are referred to as spear or harpoon in different places in the game, same as harpoon guns are sometimes referred to as spear guns. The achievements as such are working, but if you only look at the Harpoon achievement rather than the whole set, it’s not clear which weapon it’s referring to.

harpoons arent necessarily fired from a gun (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harpoon) so long as it doesnt have “gun” after it, treat it as spear
